It means that I can still travel, but not work anywhere but Germany (or the US), not be out of Germany for longer than 6 months and at the end of the year go through the whole battle once again. I was also on track for German citizenship at the end of next year and now my lawyer has said it will likely be another three years - if I can renew the temporary permit for that long. Best case scenario as I understand it is that I've essentially just lost 2-3 years of effort. What does it mean for you in practice during the next year? Presumably you can still travel....but not stay anywhere long-term?
My lawyer says we could appeal but the process would last 4-5 years and would probably tank any application for citizenship on my part in the future... that's why he's sorted out this year extension as an alternative to appeal.I simply cannot see the logic, but perhaps there is none and maybe that leaves a smidge of hope for appeals?
That sounds unbelievably complicated and unnecessary after all you've done so far. It sounds as if your lawyer is on the case, but it doesn't make it any less unsettling. Here's hoping...It means that I can still travel, but not work anywhere but Germany (or the US), not be out of Germany for longer than 6 months and at the end of the year go through the whole battle once again. You got it in one. Not eligible for permanent status because I was here for medical treatment. Even though I have insurance and paid everything in cash, so no drain on anyone. Is it because of your medical history?
