Hola todos! Here I am, your Spanish Gentleman Dog, reporting from Normandy. Primero, first let me say that yesterday I did not want to leave my new friend Lazlo. Que lastima! What a shame! However now that I am here in the new house, I will say that it is pretty simpatico. I have a big garden to run in and we have cat and chicken neighbours. Mama Lady says that we don't try to eat our neighbours. Really, ML? Do you think I need to be told this? Claro que si, OF COURSE I do not try to eat my neighbours! What kind of gentleman would I be if I did that?

I may want to gently TASTE my neighbours, but that is something COMPLETELY different.

Today there was a lot of Wet from Above and both ML and I were very tired from yesterday. It was a good day just to be quiet and cuddle on the sofa. ML tried to build a fire but she is useless at that. I cannot complain as I cannot do such things either, but at least I have the excuse of NO OPPOSABLE THUMBS. What is ML's excuse? I do not know. Luckily it is warm and we do not really NEED a fire. If ML gets cold, I will simply sit on her head to warm her up. Que bien! How good I am at that!

This evening we went to the nearest beach. There is not much beach and no waves so ML says tomorrow we will look for some waves. For tonight, this was fine. I got to run around and got cookies for being a good boy. Cookies are more important than waves, no?

Here are some other dogs on the beach...

Looks wonderful, sounds like you have a lovely place to stay, lovely big garden! Good job your love interest Bramble isn't with you, she would LOVE to taste those chickens!!! How long are you in Normandy for? :)

Hola todos! Hello everybody! Today we had a ride on the car train and went to France. ML was Señora Grumpypantalones this morning because we had to get up really early but once we got to the beach I made her happy by running into the water and being silly. I may be a dignified Spanish Gentleman Dog, but sometimes you just have to do silly things to cheer up the people you love. Also ML gives me special sausages if I make her laugh, so...

Vale, ok, I have no dignity around sausages. Que lastima, what a shame, but I cannot help myself. Anyway, it did not matter because no one saw me except a few tourists, the police patrol and two other dogs. What do I care?

After the beach we went to our new house. I have decided to live here forever because I now have a new friend named Lazlo. Lazlo has a big garden, a swimming pool and a bowl of kibble in the kitchen that magically refills after I steal borrow it. Que rico! How delicious!

Tomorrow ML is going somewhere else - she is always going somewhere else - but I am staying here. Ojala que te vayas bien, have a good life, ML. Lazlo and I will miss you!

This is me being dignified on the beach...

Looking very guapo if I may say so...

I can even make sand look elegant. What did you say? I do not look elegant here? Well to you I say "Pfft!"

Today was a big tourist day even though we never ventured further than 30 minutes from our little farm house. There's a lot to see around here! The morning began with an ancient motorcycle appearing in our drive propped against the house's stone wall. It turns out it belonged to an even more ancient man who was doing something to the walls of the cottage attached to ours. After a futile attempt to make small talk (the locals are not too chatty so far), Carbon and I got in the car with my enormous list of things to see and headed down the road.

First stop: Barfleur. It's a port town. It has three streets. It has free parking. I think I was the only tourist. Maybe not the only tourist ever, but certainly the only tourist TODAY. :sneaky:

Lots of fishing boats...

A WW1 memorial...

A striking lifeboat building...

Mmmm....didn't I say to "wait" and pose over there by that wall? Yes, that wall WAY over there?!

Don't miss the roof tops!

D-Day flags everywhere...

Then we headed to a lighthouse which I thought would be pretty. It turns out it looked like a cross between a nuclear power station and a prison. We didn't hang around.

Next it was on to the Batterie de Caqueret near Neville. I only found this by looking for interesting stopping points on Google Maps, but I'm really glad I did. It is off the beaten path and the batteries are slowly being reclaimed by the sea. At the same time, it is still possible to go inside the remaining buildings and try to imagine how the men here in the war must of felt. I say 'try to imagine' because I know I can't. All I could think of is how terrifying it must have been for soldiers on both sides of the guns.

For the first time, I felt some trepidation about parking my German-plated car near a D-Day site. Is there anyone left that this might offend? Would people think it strange that a German would be visiting a WW2 site? In an ironic twist, I really needn't have worried: the only other three cars parked near the battery were ALSO German. As the day went on, it became a theme: lots and lots of cars with German plates. How strange is that?

Caqueret is a beautiful beach and haunting at the same time. Yes, some zoomies happened...

However it was mainly a somber and thoughtful visit, even for Carbon.

Graffiti that is well done but maybe doesn't suit the place...
