Oh Candy you have my sympathy, I had a run of things going wrong in the house a couple of months ago, it does get a bit waring I know. And nearly always on a Friday too. The last thing being a leak from the bath through the ceiling that prevented me from making a second visit to Cornwall. Now the ceiling is waiting to be painted.

Without wishing to sound morbid or anything, in many ways the events of this last year are keeping things in perspective for me. Where previously I might have lost my temper or panicked or just ranted at the random unfairness of things, now I just kind of think 'OK, I've had worse to deal with, I can do this.' Is this finally the Wisdom of Age? Or is it a couple of glasses of wine speaking? Or is it just the pleasure of being home, boiler or no boiler? Mixture of the last two I suspect! Cheers!

I think because of all that, you become kinder to yourself. I know I mention this a lot but you have a ‘can do’ approach to life that I always strive to have. I think life can be very hard/cruel at times but somehow a way through by finding solutions instead of railing at the unfairness of it is the only way.

The boiler can't be fixed until tomorrow but the good news is that it's still under guarantee so it won't cost anything. The man who came to look at it today asked if I had the relevant paperwork, so I produced the folder with everything in it. He looked through it all and then said in a slow and patient voice as if he was explaining something very complicated to a Bearer of Little Brain, ' Right, now it's VERY IMPORTANT that you keep all this together, RIGHT?' 
I was tempted to point out that I had indeed managed to do that all by myself without being told, but I decided that to respond was beneath my dignity. It's actually warmer outside than in at present and Joy and l had a good walk today and are keeping warm together in our cosy sitting room, so all is as well as it currently can be!

Boiler fixed! GGJ had her play with her best friends today. Trevor's children and grandchildren came for a late lunch/ early tea and brought me a bottle of wine to drink later for Father's Day. Properly home! Er.... When's the next adventure due?!

We're off again! The 12th is the first anniversary of us losing Trevor and we wanted to do something special, all together. We've rented a farmhouse in Dufton, Cumbria for the weekend. It sleeps 8, although only six of us are going plus GGJ of course. It looks beautiful, allows three or more dogs, has a hot tub, sauna and barbeque. We're going out to lunch on Friday and setting off in two cars afterwards. I'm really looking forward to it and Joy is bound to have a brilliant time with lots of people to play with, loads of new smells and exploring and maybe even a SOSSIJ if it's barbeque weather!
