Exactly - also if there’s lots of undergrowth (esp. bracken & long grass) that you’re leaping through or brushing against, this is prime tick territory. But wide paths and low scrubby verges, or sandy dunes, not so much if an issue.

Aaaand I'm instantly itchy all over...
Merlin has his scalibor collar on, Poppy has nothing so far (and no seizures thus far). I like Cupcase’s idea of the lint remover!
I have bought a ‘natural’ tick collar that we will try with Pops if things get really bad. It is based on neem oil, with coconut and chamomile. Not at all sure it’ll work - though it says it is a repellent rather than a pesticide. I hope Poppy is ok with it.

Are those amber dog necklaces popular where you are in Germany? A lot of people use them in Regensburg but I don't anything about them other than what Google coughed up.

They're probably like the amber necklaces that people put on teething babies too. I remember doing the research on them when Nath was a baby and all of the claims were correct in theory - but the temperature that the amber would have to get to in order to release the desired properties would be so high that the necklace would cause burns. Oh dear.

You do see them, @Emily_Babbelhund, but I have never heard anything to suggest they actually work!!!
If you’re concerned, I’d phone a vet practice close to where you’re going and ask what they recommend

Our vet recommended to use both when we went to Spain. So advantix and the collar....Took one off Shadow this morning while I was doing nail trimming. Just sat there, on the outside of his coat, not attached.
Either this is a really heavy year for ticks, or the Seresto is nowhere near as effective as Advantix

Got the Seresto tick collars for when we are in France. They have never had a tick in England, but Fred got loads in France on his head. Annie only two, but on her belly. I also got one when cutting the trees and it really hurt when it was remove with a tick twister. They have never had one since wearing their collars. I haven't, but I don't have a collar

Argh, I have a year’s supply of Advantix and Milbemax for all four dogs... in Spain 
I’m going to email one of the local vets (not mine, to avoid going to the capital) to get in a supply to carry us through the summer here, because I’m assuming we’re here for the long haul.

Ewww! All of my summer dog meds are in Spain! I'm going to have to see if I can get some here. It's not quite tick season yet, though - still generally too cold for them.
Merlin had a tick the other day. I went to get the new scalibor collar out of the medicine cabinet - and saw it was for small dogs!! Luckily our vet practice is open and they were happy to exchange it - through the practice‘s reception window, so social distancing was properly maintained...
