I am going to have to buy a new vacuum cleaner. Please can you tell me which one you have and how you rate it, before I go and buy a new one. My old vacuum cleaner is a very old Dyson. Thanks.

We have a Henry hoover, and heaven forfend but I love it. I grew up in jobs (retail, plaster workshop) where I’d have to hoover, always with a Henry, and I swore I’d never use one again. Then my MIL gave it to us about 15 yrs ago and it’s been brilliant. Powerful, reliable, easy to manoevre (but we do have a bungalow so no stairs to contend with). They’re quite heavy to lift about, but if you don’t need to much I’d really recommend it.

I have used soooooo many vacuum cleaners over the years because of my job. The old ones, hoover, Electrolux etc were built to last but we're not very powerful. The new ones are all built to fall apart but are more powerful.
The houses that I still clean have upright Dyson and I'm lucky there is a shop, who maintains them.
I have one house who has a shark vacuum, I absolutely loathe it.
One of my ladies liked cylinder vacuum cleaners, in an ALL carpet house. I left that job after she bought this ginormous Dyson cylinder. Hated it.
Life is far too short to be using every ounce of energy trying to push, pull a vacuum cleaner. The only one I would buy would have to be an upright, big plastic reusable container and a Dyson. Oh and all those wands are useless. Three of my ladies bought them and had to go back to using a 'proper' hoover.

I like my Dyson cordless, but also have hard floors throughout. It sucks (hehehe) on carpet, upholstery etc.
I’m tempted to get a Shark as well so that we have one in Spain and one in Andorra (at the moment, we take it with us) and so that I can compare :)

I've wondered about the Shark after seeing ads on tv but we don't need a new one yet.

We have a family of Henrys, one at home, OH uses one for work and I have a Hetty in the shop.
We have a rechargeable stick Dyson for a quick going over, convenient and light weight, no heaving around and plugging in but wouldn't do the whole house with it.

That's 3 of you using the shark. I have an elderly lady that I clean for and she has one, I absolutely hate it. It's like going to the gym. It doesn't move like a normal vacuum cleaner.
So why would this thing be as bad?

We are in the same boat. We have a Harry and I HATE him, ready to throw it out of the window!! useless, emptying bags, far too heavy for me as I am tiny.

I really would like a cordless light one so also thinking about the Shark. We have wooden floors in all rooms with rugs except the bedrooms they are carpeted for now. xx

I had a cordless shark, this one below that angles under things, but I sent it back. The plug broke anyway, but it was such a sensitive little thing, every time it rolled over the edge of a runner it got stuck, the only way the suction was strong enough was to use boost mode, and that reduced running time to less than 15 minutes. Back to the Hoover cylinder which I hate, but it's powerful enough and only cost £60, no way did I feel the shark was worth £200

I had a Dyson in California and loved it. The house in Cornwall has a Henry and I have a love/hate relationship with him. He is VERY powerful and works very well. However, I swear that he weighs at least 50 pounds and is so hard to push over thick carpet. I've come to think of him as my Cornish personal trainer as I'm always sweating and exhausted after doing the whole house - and it's a small house!

This is highly accurate re: Henry.

I have a Roomba and never use it. It was more hastle moving everything out of the way than using a cordless. We don’t have big rooms, though. I have a friend who runs a B&B in France and their rooms are huuuuuuuuge - the Roomba is brilliant for that, as it allows her to get on with other cleaning while it does its thing.
