Just got back from the long walk and I am really tired. It’s not windy today (but I know we have Storm Dennis on it’s way ☹) so that was ok. The mud however is hideous. Red was virtually a brown dog by the time we got home. It’s such hard work 😓 walking in these conditions and there is getting less and less firm ground to walk on. Even the bank is becoming a quagmire. There is one bit where you go down steps to get off the bank and into what is known as Betty’s Wood - you have to slosh about in liquid mud and you can’t grasp any greenery as there are thorns on it!!

Red is fast asleep 💤 - I am not surprised.

A gentle, quiet day in the Calder Valley for a change. We went to check on the herons for the third day in a row. On Tuesday all the nests were still there but no herons. Yesterday we spotted one heron and today all six are back, which was lovely to see. It's been good to have some respite from the wind, sleet and hail and now I suppose we must gird our loins in preparation for Storm Dennis the Menace which is due to arrive in time for the weekend!

It was a beautiful sunny day in this part of Cornwall. Carbon and I walked the coastal trail again, this time Hawker's Cove above Padstow. It's also being used as cow pasture at the moment, so where the cows had walked it was squishy, nasty, muddy. Did I mention I love my wellies? But otherwise it was fine up on the cliffs, just very, very WINDY. I had a hard time keeping standing a few times and definitely didn't get near the edge. Still a fabulous walk with blue skies and wild seas. I really savoured it as I know we're going to be stuck indoors all weekend. Storm Dennis is coming and Carbon does NOT do wet from above.
