Weather

We had friends stay with us with 3 kids, they had to pack up and leave after it was heading towards them. Fire was approx 7km from them, so choice is either leave or fight. But you have to do it prior to it getting bad and roads close.
Went back today and all good as wind changed at last minute...but still a watch cause wind can change any time.

Not as bad as other states as we don't have the large forests in the same way...

It's terrible isn't it. My mum and dad live about two hours north of Melbourne. They lost power yesterday from about 8pm until 3am and it was still 38 degrees at 10pm. They are on five acres and are on tank water so no power means no pump to get water to the taps and, of course, no aircon.

I've seen this a few times on Facebook over the last few days. It really does put it into perspective and doesn't even include the fires currently burning in Victoria, South Australia or Western Australia

Here in Cape Town we’re having what feels like winter weather in summer. Last night I was working till 3am (urgent troubleshooting) and I didn’t mind being up because it was raining so beautifully. I just loved listening to the rain. We’ve had such a bad drought for years. Today is sunny and breezy and cool—that feeling of the promise of summer. I love it.

If I were a tourist here on summer holidays I’m not so sure I’d love it as much.

My parents in law are visiting Cape Town at the moment and are not enjoying the rain! We’re hoping you have sunshine for Christmas Day :fingers::sun:

Our friend has a smallholding just outside Lithgow where several houses were destroyed yesterday. She can see the glow of fires to the north and east. She's spent today packing her car and horsebox, and putting together a plan with her neighbours to get all her horses and dogs to safety. Its quite terrifying.
