Weather

The weather is bonkers this year! I've had a couple of evening walks where I could have been in a T-shirt. In February. In a ski resort. This is spring weather, not for Feb!
Is it still very mild where you are, @MellowYellow ?
Yes, it’s far too warm for February! In Helsinki, although I thought it was cold, the locals said it was unnaturally warm. Normally you can walk over the ice to the islands in the bay - but no ice this year...

How long does that last for? What is the weather for each season? When I remember the winters growing up in Scotland, I know they were nowhere near that temperature. I do remember we had one source of heat, a coal fire in the sitting room and the bedroom windows had the most beautiful patterns on the INSIDE made of frost. Now our winters are wet.
Our winter temps generally hover around -10c, on average. But we certainly get al least one stretch of bitter cold (below -20C) at some point during the winter. We’ve had the week of -40C so hopefully that will be it for those extreme temps. Right now we are on a bit of a yo-yo. This morning it was -17C, it’s warming up to 1C by later afternoon. It will be hovering around -1 to 3 for the rest of the week. Next week we’re getting a bit colder -5C or so for the beginning of the week, last half of the week it will be closer to +5.

This up and down is not necessarily unusual, as it happens every spring, but generally this is happening in March, not February. So we are a little early for that.

We had sun for our walk this morning! Unfortunately it was accompanied by rain and high winds! I have got very wet four times today; two dog walks, a trip to the shop for supplies, and bringing in coal and logs. Joy and I are going exactly nowhere tonight, even though the pub is very near. We'll stay in by the fire with a Kong and some wine and save the pub for less wild weather.:rain:

G and I had a day out today and we went inland to Crieff/Comrie and drove back via Glendevon and Gleneagles (for those who know a bit of Scottish Geography).
Although the roads were passable with care there was lots of flooding, rivers and streams bursting their banks and flooding fields. And impromptu waterfalls at the edge of roads.
I know compared to more southern counties we have it good, but was a fair driech trip out.

We got absolutely drenched from the rain 🌧 this morning - a dog (not Red) also jumped up at me and left massive mud marks all over my coat. Even my feet were wet so my boots let in water somehow today - urgh. I am still trying to get warm. I had to go for a blood test after the walk and the nurse said my arm was freezing 🥶. The washing machine is now busy with all the wet muddy clothes. I see it’s going to rain all day tomorrow too - argh 😤
