Snap! So cold, but so nice. The birds are singing too,It's been absolutely gorgeous here today, this afternoon we had bright blue skies and sunshine. Very cold, but dry, and I'll take that![]()
Same here, but the sun went down behind the hills as I was walking and it became bitterly cold, but at least not raining!!It's been absolutely gorgeous here today, this afternoon we had bright blue skies and sunshine. Very cold, but dry, and I'll take that![]()
We have had some Waxwings! I wondered what all the people out with cameras were doing! I managed to see three today but was driving and couldn't seen the lovely colour of them.Snap! So cold, but so nice. The birds are singing too,
I think they tend to come down to the north of the country from Scandinavia more than the midlands. Like you there were wonderful photos on Facebook. I did wonder what people were doing pointing cameras up into the trees, thought it was a camera club outingWe had Waxwings a few weeks ago. Every day there were hordes of people with cameras pointing at them as the scoffed the berries. I only had fleeting glimpses as I drove past, byt there were lots of wonderful photos on facebook, they are beautiful.
How exciting -- I really hope they can make their way here - just a little further west! @edzbird, I should think it's quite unusual for them to appear on IoM?We have had some Waxwings!
I believe they stop off most years. We must be on their flight path.should think it's quite unusual for them to appear on IoM?
There can be power-outs but, up until this point, it’s very rare to have brown-outs when it’s this cold. Mainly because it really is a life-or-death situation if the power does go out so our electricity grid is built with a lot of extra capacity and redundancies to cope. However, I’m not sure how it’s all going to go with the increased insistance on electric vehicles. Our power grid is not built to handle that increase on top of everything else.@Lisa, do you ever have 'power outs' and if so what happens then, though I suppose the fireplace would be a great help. but still difficult to defeat -35!
As promised…

Good Lord it’s cold. Went for a couple around the block walks yesterday when it was about 5 degrees “warmer”
No walkies today for us. It’s a bit of a problem because Simba does run outside to do his business but he understandably doesn’t linger so he’s not going as much as he does. Yesterday he peed on the carpet in the guest room when we were at work. I’m home for lunch now and asked if he wanted to go outside. He tentatively stuck his nose out and beat a hasty retreat.
Can’t say I blame him.
It’s getting a bit warmer on Sunday (-24C) and Monday is supposed to be positively balmy at -9. Just gotta endure a few more days.
Yes the heater blowing on the pipes works well. We had a furnace go on us over a weekend a few years ago when it was cold like this and that’s what we did.Alberta is really really cold! Saw this on Facebook

Hugo doesn’t seem to care that it’s -34 here with windchillHe had a good morning zoomie this morning while I froze watching. I have a few frozen kongs to help keep him busy today though! No Walkies for us either for a few days.
I’ve been worried about my pipes freezing. Every year for three years now they have froze during our cold snaps, last year I was without water for a week. I’ve been much better this time with remembering to let the taps drip constantly, and leaving cupboards open under the sinks so the pipes get more warmth. I have a heater under the one that has pipes closest to the elements. Reading a lot on Facebook of people losing water so it’s working for me so far!
