All is well here, thanks everyone!
The power usage on the electrical grid dropped dramatically after the alert went on. It was ended a couple hours later - although I didn’t know that until I got up this morning. No rolling outages were necessary, thankfully! Neighbouring provinces can share power with us but they are also under historic cold temps right now so they don’t have a lot to spare. We can also share power with Montana. So there are lots of ways to keep the lights on and heat on but it does get challenging.
Still brutally cold this morning. We’re at -42C and a “feels-like “ temp of -52C. But it is supposed to slowly start warming today. Tomorrow we are forecasted -14C.
In my opinion, we need to have a better solution on the renewable side of things. Wind and solar don’t cut it as base load energy as they are unreliable. Alberta had the cleanest coal production in the world but the industry got shut down because of political ideology. Ok, fine. But don’t force us to freeze because of it! There are other options than wind/solar. I really hope we start looking at geothermal or small nuclear power reactors (new technology with no meltdown risk) or hydrogen. There’s lots of advances in these industries that are promising, thankfully! Rant over!
@Jacqui-S yes I didn’t word that properly. Wind does make the cold much worse. That’s what I was trying to say!
@Jelinga HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Mine was the 11th but we were to celebrate today. I hope you have a wonderful day!!
