Weather

We were both drenched twice yesterday, absolutely soaked to the skin. Flicka paced all night, in and out of the dog flap, I came down and settled her, that did no good, bought a duvet down and attempted to sleep on the sofa, hoping she would join me, but no, pace pace! So took her uo and invited her on/in the bed, no good, pace pace. So I got up at 6am and she finally went to sleep. I wondered if it was because she got so wet, but was well dried. I think she is in season as her vulva is very swollen, wonder if that is upsetting her? I had visions of going to emergency vet today about 40 minutes away and I don't know where it is and I don't have a satnav! She seems relatively happy today, ate her breakfast with gusto.

We are on the very edge of the amber warning here, it sounds scary enough. My son's girlfriend is 1st on call for our local vets this weekend -- don't know whether she been out overnight, I am waiting to hear. I'm not given to worry but can't help feeling concerned.
Have just heard she didn't get called so didn't have be in the position of weighing up the risk to herself versus the welfare of an animal.

We're OK tucked up indoors. The wind is battering outside, but a quick check around the garden & all is OK, currently. There are trees and power lines down all over the island - the 33kV line near us is down but there is a second high voltage supply line so we've not lost power. It should be abating around about now.

We've recorded a high gust of 43mph on our weather station in the garden, it is fairly sheltered. The all time high gust is 45mph recorded in December 2011.

We have a small tree down just up the road but thankfully it’s not impacting on anything. Unfortunately Neo won’t toilet in the garden so we had to walk 2 minutes to the nearest acceptable bush and straight back home. Curled up on the sofa now and here we will stay until things calm down. Hope everyone affected is doing ok.

Goodness, high drama on our shopping trip just now - 3 little Cavalier King Charles spaniels ran into the road in front of our car to bark at a passing dog on the pavement, the wind had obviously blown their fence down and gate open and owners were out. With leads and biscuits we managed to wrangle them behind a more secure gate in their back garden while holding up the traffic - disaster averted! They were sweet dogs, glad they’re not squished.
