Ever since poor little Joy had that awful retrobulbar abscess last year, she has seemed to think that it's my fault if she hurts herself. If something hurts her, she acts as if she's frightened of me and runs away from me, tail between legs. This has been not only upsetting but also worrying, as it can be difficult to get her to come to me to go back on lead at times. I have lived in hope that this will eventually pass and have deliberately not made a big thing of it. On our walk this afternoon I threw her Orange Thing for her and as she reached for it she yelped and looked at her back end as if something there had hurt. I called her, she paused, then picked her toy up and came to me, dropping it at my feet and accepting cuddles, comfort and praise. I was so pleased! It's taken a year for her to get over that horrible time and I'm hoping that her trust in me is now fully restored. I smiled all the way home!
Pee Ess I think she must have just turned a bit awkwardly, nothing appears to be hurting her now.:dug:

OH was working in the office and Chewie was asleep on the ottoman. He wanted to shut the door so he wouldn't disturb the baby during an urgent phone call, and needed Chewie to go to bed. He tried asking, tried a gentle prod. Nothing. Eventually he picked him up and carried him to our room, depositing him on the bed. Apparently Chewie was not bothered by any of this, and when I went to bed a couple of minutes later was happily curled up on my side...

We met the most beautiful 11 year old yellow Lab today, who was a retired therapy dog. Turns out she worked in a hospice for children. She was so sweet, but still very puppyish and really wanted to play with Chewie. She must have been such a comfort to those kids and their families. :inlove:

Chewie also met a small girl (maybe about 4) who was initially afraid of him, but after some gentle encouragement from her granny and dad she was throwing her ball for him like a champ. We were there watching like hawks in case he got over excited but thankfully he was an excellent ambassador for the breed. Phew.
