What made you smile today?

I'm watching the BBC 4 documentary on Joan Armatrading. I was such a big fan and I'd kind of forgotten. How can that happen? Still love her music and all she stands for. Going to be Amazon another visit soon, to buy on CD what I used to have on vinyl. Two of my favourites were 'Willow' and 'All the way from America ' also 'Love and Affection ', of course. Is/was anyone else a fan? The memories are making me smile.

I love 'love and affection '. But off the top of my head, not sure I know any others of hers. I'll have to YouTube her tomorrow 😊

Long story...but oh man, I had the best laugh today!

So...this weekend I am attending a virtual writer's festival. One of the sessions was the Group Book Launch, where 9 of us were to showcase our books that we have published this summer. We only had about 4 minutes each to do a talk or a reading or both. I had worked something up and practiced it a few times...I opted for both talk and reading from the book. I had notes up on the screen and my book all prepared with a marker in the right spot.

I had invited friends/family to attend and it was so nice to see my son J (29-year-old who lives in Montreal) as one of the attendees as well as my sisters and niece. I was feeling sympathy for J though, as there he was, this young man in the (virtual) midst of a bunch of older ladies who were going to talk about their books. Bless him. I was scheduled to be on near the end so he was going to have to sit through all of them before me.

But wait! Another male pops on, looked like a teenager type. Great! At least J wouldn't be the only guy, I thought! UNTIL he started asking J if he had a penis and if J could show it...and then got ruder from there and was just in the midst of pulling down his pants to moon us all when the moderator finally got his act together to cut him off.

BUT somehow in the midst of the moderator trying to cut the Zoom bomber off in a panic he managed to cut off a few of the attendees, too...including me! I'm trying to frantically get in again, but it kept telling me the host had blocked my IP address. Ack! I'm trying to text J to tell him to use the chat feature to tell the host...he's texting me back and trying to let me know what's happening....finally he says they are ending the session and sent me a screenshot of the new link.

Well, super...but it's a picture. I can't copy/paste. So here's me trying to squint at the screen and type in the looong string of numbers/letters/symbols that is the URL and OF COURSE getting it wrong. My son finally calls me and asks why I'm not on...I tell him and he lets me know he sent me the actual link via FB messenger. Yeesh.

SO, I click on the link and FINALLY get back in the room. I get in about 15 minutes after it's started, just in time to hear the host tell the previous person that due to all the palaver, she could not do a reading but just talk about her book.

I'm trying to settle down and not look as wild-eyed as I felt at that moment and then the host says, "Lisa, great to have you back! Are you ready to present, now?"

Ummm NO....my mind is completely fried from all the frantic activity plus all of the "J, can I see your penis?" directed at my son but hey, I"m determined to be a professional author, so off I launch into my talk.

But with all the hoopla my nice notes are all covered on my computer screen with all the other windows I had brought up while I was trying to log back in, an email I was frantically trying to write to the organizers, etc etc so of course, I can't see it nor find it.

All my prep for nothing....THANK YOU to Penis Boy. So I waffle on about the book trying to look completely professional and forget to say half of what I had prepared.

Meanwhile in the chatbox my fam were nattering away, pretending they didn't know me and saying things like, "Wow, sounds great!" and "Where can we get your book?"

Oh man...by the time it was over I was trying so hard not to laugh, and then I had a video call with my sisters and my niece and we just laughed so hard about it all.

Yeesh honestly it was so hilarious and ridiculous...you just had to laugh. I'm still giggling.
