How does an owner let the dog know that they want to go to the bank rather than the supermarket? Or do they have such a set routine that the dog knows where to go each day?
The owner and dog learn all the routes they use while in training. If they want to add more Guide Dogs are always there to help them. Spencer has a partner who helps him and Terry with new routes but Spencer only needs showing once. They were on a cruise recently and Spencer found the cabin when Dean, Terry’s partner, couldn’t! He also found the way to the spending area through a maze of cabins after being shown once. Incredible.

But one amazing dog I know lives on a canal boat and regularly moves to new locations. He finds the station/bakery etc by smell alone!

Of course Keir is also a hearing dog as his owner is profoundly deaf. She has some vision, enough to communicate by BSL. An amazing woman.

I must admit, I have learned so much from Terry and Spencer's FB thread. It has been so interesting to follow their journey, and builds on what I have learned from Mags' puppy raising part.

Dogs are amazing.

Their ability when developed is just fantastic. Not just in the guide dog area, but applies to all working dogs too.

My neice gave me some lovely chocolates and this gin from Hotel Chocolat for my birthday. Just trying the gin out thisevening, it being Friday. It's rather Veryvery nice indeed!👍😀View attachment 28381
My friend was given some Hotel Chocolats during the week, a moment's inattention and they are in the dog! Fortunately she had eaten a few the night before. She didn't think and left four dogs and the chocolates together the next morning, no idea which was the naughty dog! Fortunately no dog was harmed!

I’m off to Bristol to see both my sons, my DIL and Enkelin! Staying till Tuesday.

I’m at Birmingham waiting for the next train. Poor Mr Boogs is at home Zaba and Tatze sitting. He’s coming to pick me up on Tuesday while my brother dig sits. I was scared of the journey alone and rather disabled, but all is well and people have been very kind.

….

Are you going to be away long Mum?

We took Fred to the vets yesterday for his booster. Fred normally gets his booster in the car park, he hates going to the vets.
It was raining so hard that our young vet said let do him in reception. He got down on the floor with Fred and was giving him cheese, then he said call him to you. Fred came, he was getting his ears rubbed well, it was over and done he never knew. Back for more cheese off the vet, just then another vet nurse walked in. She smiled and said I would lay on the floor with him if he gave me cheese. We all laughed, I don't know if she was on a diet or fancied the vet.
