What made you smile today?

Today Kipper had his regular treatment session with our great vet-physio, and she asked if I wanted to go with him. She’s asked a few times, and I’ve said no as I didn’t want to alter the dynamic - but she was keen to show me, so I went along today.
I was so impressed with their dynamic. She’s very much +ve and force-free in her whole approach, and it was fascinating watching Kipper interact with her - he was clear in his body language, and they’ve built up trust so that when he said ‘enough’ she listened, and when she asked him for a movement she knew he could do he gave it to her. She understood when he needed thinking time, and he was very good at settling into their routine - his face in the hydro-treadmill was lovely, he went into the zone and was very steady.
It was a real privilege and made me smile to have that insight.
A great read to start my day with Harriet , fantastic to have such a person on side xx

Just seeing some small glimmers of rationality in Rowan in the last week or so, after we have had a really hard time with spirited 3yo behaviour for a while. He agreed to have a shower and go to bed after only five books... and was asleep before 8! This is a win for us.

He did faff around for a while because his feet were hot/itchy/he needed to remove socks/needed to reposition his doll/needed to move his pillow etc etc etc but it was so much better. It's so lovely when he cooperates and we are all happier. I think he is starting to understand that a bit.

GGJ and I have had a lovely but Veryvery busy Christmas and New Year. We stayed with my brother and sister in law, had her family over, also my neice and her partner, then we came back home and they stayed for two nights, then as they left on New Year's Eve, my friend Liz arrived, then two more friends joined us for a meal in the evening, then the four of us went out to eat the following evening, then the friends who I would usually see over Christmas and New Year wanted to catch up!
Tonight Order is Restored! Christmas decorations away, peacefully by the Fireinametalbox with my GoodGirl.......and breathe!...... We had such a good time, but it's making me smile a lot to be peacefully home alone with Joy and I think she looks pretty happy too!20230106_225519.jpg

Mostly buffet type stuff for NYE. I'd also made and frozen a Turkish Lentil and Bulgur soup before Christmas, which went down very well. The friends who came also bought contributions which were delicious. I treated Little Brother and Jenny to fillet steak, Dauphinois potatoes and tenderstem broccoli by way of thanking them for a lovely Christmas ( and because it's easy!) A very good new restaurant has opened up just round the corner, so we ate there on the 29th and again on New Year's day ( got to support local businesses!), so it wasn't too much cooking, just a lot of making up the spare bed, digging out the reasonable cutlery and glasses etc. Most enjoyable though, and it felt like the first 'proper ' Christmas and New Year since before the Pandemic, which was lovely.

All sounds lovely @Candy. Fillet Steak and Dauphinois potatoes, delicious, but making the potatoes is a bit of an effort. I am just cooking a venison casserole and decided not to put the mushrooms in, so making mushroom soup. Going to have a job to find space in freezer!
I have a mandolin ( the slicey thing, not the musical instrument) so throwing together Dauphinois potatoes for three only takes about ten minutes apart from the actual time in the oven. I love homemade mushroom soup. If there's not enough room in the freezer you could send some to me!

According to G, "just an expensive McDonalds".
He does however also say Nandos is an expensive KFC, but personally I know which one I would opt for.....
It’s much nicer than McDonalds. But a lot more expensive!

Probably quite similar to the Nando’s/kfc comparison.

Have a look at this quick version @Jelinga - This is for 2- though not overly generous. You could easily do a single portion in a smaller dish. The potatoes are not sliced "mandolin thin" which is what I have tried doing in the past (and failed!), so it just take a minute to peel & slice a person-portion-sized spud. If you can see the video on the page you'll see how they are not too thin.

I have a hideously sharp ceramic blade mandolin, I have cut myself a couple of times on it and I get a bit queasy now when I use it.
