What made you smile today?

laying a game with Ella to dry her paws after being outside.

One towel inside in the laundry and one outside the door (undercover). The little game involved sending her between towels and various changes of position on each towel. She had a great time and I managed to avoid wet paw prints on my clean floors 😁
Fantastic. I trained Coco to spin on the door mat to dry his feet, it works well and was quick to train. He's very bright. I tried to train Meg(an) Sparkle to do the same..Oh how HARD! She just didn't get it. Couldn't follow a lure, no matter what. Then I started to train it at dog school during the short down periods when the trainer says "play with your dog". Still using a lure. Well blow me she got it really quickly in the big open space, on her lead. I still struggled to translate that to the mat by the back door. Yesterday...SHE GOT IT! Big smiles.

Friday night is pub night and tonight is special as my favourite pub in the whole world, ever has finally re opened, having closed at the end of January 2016. It has been taken over by the local community, who ran fundraising events and successfully applied for grants to restore the building in the way that was so badly needed. It was the pub that made me decide to remain in Sowerby Bridge when I arrived here by boat all those years ago. It is where I have made many of my closest friends and where I first met Trevor. It's called The Puzzle Hall Inn, known to most as The Puzzle, or just The Puzz. Nearly every time I have been in there I have had a Labrador by my side and the thought of going back tonight with Joy is making me smile. I shall report back later!
With any luck!%)

I'm home safely by the fire, have eaten my cauliflower cheese, got my jarmies on, all cosy with GGJ. The untold story is simply that, having left London, the Puzzle was about the first pub I went to where people were like minded, not racist, sexist, had done stuff other than just live in the same place all their lives, had travelled, embraced different cultures, thought different thoughts. I must have been a regular Friday nighter there for about 8 or nine years before I started getting to know Trevor, and it took about another 18 months before we got together. Joy and I had a lovely time there tonight. Saw people I haven't seen for ages, lots of old and friendly faces, a few drinks bought, stayed longer than I'd intended but no harm done. Very good to be back there, and here is the sign above the fireplace, which says it all really.IMG_20200110_182409.jpg
