I was in the bathroom just now talking to a Daddy Longlegs. I was trying to catch it with my hands to put it outside. It was getting panicky, and I was saying 'It's OK, gently gently ' to it, which is what I say to Joy when I'm doing anything to her that she's less than enthusiastic about. The bathroom door was closed but not locked and all of a sudden it was whoomphed open with a certain black nose and there was the girl herself, licking her lips and looking for the treat that she was sure she was due!

Not at all! You just open the window for the wasp and say 'out you go please' and they go! A Daddylonglegs, has gangly legs and tries to escape the helpful hands!

The difference is, I'd happily scoop up a DDL in my hands to help him on his way outside. I'm definitely not doing that for a wasp!

Ah, but having been gangly myself once (albeit it fifty years ago) I have great affection for Daddylonglegses!

I was on a hen weekend years ago in late summer and the place we had rented near Bath was full of DDL. I spent the evenings scooping them up and putting them outdoors, easily 20 or 30 each night. No one else could bear touching them

I remember reading somewhere that Crane Flies ( DDL) would actually be poisonous, or at least inflict some minor damage to humans, if their jaws and teeth were a bit stronger. As it is they can't pierce human skin so we are all fine and dandy with other.
