What made you smile today?

A visit to the vet made me smile today - and made the vet and nurse smile too!

For well over eighteen months, until first lockdown in March 2020, I had been taking Wispa fortnightly to the veterinary practice’s desensitisation clinic. The clinic sessions were run on a one-to-one basis by some of the nurses, with one of the vets popping in when possible too. When Wispa first met the vet who we subsequently saw regularly, he stood with his back to the wall in the consulting room, looking as if he wished it would swallow him up, while Wispa stood and barked at him, her tail firmly clamped under her tummy.

We saw the same two nurses and vet over the months, occasionally introducing another nurse or vet in case she ever needed treatment when ‘her’ team were unavailable and she gradually relaxed and became happier with the visits. The photo below was taken in 2018.

Fast forward to today. Both dogs had been booked in for their boosters with ‘Wispa’s‘ vet. He came out to the car to help me take the dogs into the surgery and of course Wispa barked in the car park. However, she went happily into the consulting room, wagging her tail, and proceeded to lick the vet frantically. She then let him give her a thorough examination (although he didn’t push shining a light into one of her ears!) and was as good as gold when being held by her favourite nurse while having her jab. She then continued to try to lick the vet while he was trying to examine a shaking, whining Tuppence.

What a change from 2018! Wispa hasn’t forgotten their kindness, even though the sessions had to stop eighteen months ago, and to see her so relaxed and happy in what was originally such a stressful situation for everyone made us all smile! :dug:
Oh, Veryvery well done, brave Wispa and Tuppence!xxx

I did this with Fred for over 2 years. He was great with the girls Jenny and Vicky, but still will not let the vet touch him. He will of course take treats off him. So pleased that it turned out well for Wispa x

What great news. I'm so glad our puppy preschool was at the vet. It established some great associations with the vet (until they moved...)

We finally had our trades walkthrough today and that made me smile. The prices discussed, not so much!

Yes, it is, and I'm really pleased with it but it so much shows up how much the rest of the hall, stairs and landing need smartening up! It's my Big Project now, and I aim to have it all finished and beautiful for Christmas, so watch this space!
I cheated and got a man in, just had the whole house decorated from top to toe :giggle: :) Very ordinary though, just pale throughout!

Yes Granca , well done. I wish more vet practices would do this.
It’s been a great bonus - and they genuinely care. The vet was telling me how busy they are, though, and how the shortage of vets is affecting them - they need five more vets. I wonder whether they will have the resources to resume the sessions eventually.

I'm not actually doing the decorating myself. It's an old Victorian house with high ceilings and as someone who can break an elbow falling over her own feet on a flat bit of pathing I decided the time had come to pay someone to do it for me. However I also need a window repair, a new radiator, new lampshades and stair carpet, so it's taking a bit of co-ordinating! Should be good when it's done though.

Should be super when it is done, it makes such a difference and brightens up life for a day or two! I am overly aware of Rourke's tail on the pristine walls, with luck I will forget to be so!

It's going to take quite a while. A lot of it will have to be done when GGJ isn't around to 'help'. (She does so love to help) So it's a matter of co-ordinating everything for when we're away if at all possible. I reckon we should be just about straight for Christmas!:fingers:
