I just called for an update and they said she's in surgery now and they'll call me when she come out.

So the vet called and she's recovering. I'm feeling quite confused.
There was no blockage or instruction and nothing in her stomach/intestine that shouldn't be there.
But. Her spleen looks a little small and shows evidence of scarring and her liver looks swollen and "rounded". Apparently there is evidence of inflammation and/or infection.
Waiting on results of blood tests to check liver, pancreas, kidney's etc.
Started on two AB's - one more broad spectrum and one targeting liver infections.
In the short term, we hope to have her home tonight. After that we may need to look into causes of the symptoms including chronic issues or "other"
Whatever that means..

I thought they saw a blockage on the x-rays Emily? Yes confusing. At least you can have Ella home tonight. I truly hope it's nothing chronic for your girl. xxx

That's what I thought but I think she was saying "there's definitely something there" to mean something abnormal was showing on the x-ray not necessarily something there as in a blockage. Maybe write down some of your questions before you go to pick her up? I know I always forget to ask things "in the moment "

I'm calling back around lunchtime as they'll have the results of the bloods by then. I asked heaps of questions on the phone and she was lovely and helpful but I get the feeling one of two things is going on:
1. She can see there are signs of things not adding up and that there's "something" going on but genuinely doesn't have the answer.
2. She thinks she might know the issue but doesn't want to tell me as she doesn't have the evidence to prove it. Perhaps the bloods will give her the evidence or perhaps it's not that straight forward.
She was the overnight vet and was just leaving after she called me so I'll speak to a different vet at lunchtime. It will be good to get a different person, just incase they explain it differently.

Just catching up. Hope all is well with Ella today and she can come home later and results are not bad and can be treated quickly.

So, still no idea really. I wrote it all down so here goes...
Bloods all came back perfectly normal. No indication of anything, other than stress.
There's definitely a "big inflammation event" but it's possible that what the vet saw in Ella's organs was slightly outside the norms for dogs in general but perhaps normal for Ella. They can't be sure but the bloods indicate that everything is ok.
For now they just treat as a case of severe acute gastritis. Treatment includes pain relief, fluids and antibiotics. They've had her walking a little but she's sleeping for now and they want her to stay overnight.
They will call in the morning and hopefully we can pick her up then with oral ABs and pain relief for at home.
We will follow up with our vet at some stage in the next couple months, assuming no repeat episodes inbetween.
Positives - everything they investigate and test comes back clear. Less likely to be a chronic issue as, if we were getting these symptoms from the issue, they would have expected her bloods to show it.
Negatives - I can't help but feel like she's been through a huge, invasive procedure that wasn't actually needed. Part of me wishes I'd just told them to do bloods and put her on a drip as the outcome would have been the same. Hindsight is wonderful though. Also, we still don't have a definite answer so we don't actually know what's made her so sick.

Emily, glad you got an update from them, even if all seems to be normal as such.
Just thinking because of your previous post about accidental wee, could that be at all linked? Just a thought, sure you thought about it, but maybe not?
