Yucky tummy

Well that was a disaster. She happily are a couple of bits of food. Then I introduced the bit of food with a tablet inside. She took it from me then spat it out and looked so upset 🙁. Then I tried a tiny bit of peanut butter on one, yoghurt on another and even tried crushing them. No luck.

Had to do the thing I never wanted to do. OH opened her mouth, I shoved the tablets in and rubbed her throat. Job done but not enjoyable and I don't think it will be possible as she starts to feel better and get her strength back.

Now she won't go near the prescription food. And we're one dose short on medication 🤦‍♀️

On the plus side, she snaffled up a bit of taco shell that she found near the dining table so I'm cooking up a bit of sloppy rice for her in case she still wants something to eat.

I am sorry, have only just seen this, what a worrying time you have had, so stressful. When I was a vet nurse we would occasionally have problem with dog and it needed opening up, an exploratory laparotomy, several occasions we didn't find a thing, but the dog got better!

@Emily I'm sorry it’s tough, upsetting to force but you’ve got limited options if she really won’t take it :(
just a thought - does she react better if you find it tasty? Only thinking that with Kipper, he’s always keener if we do a pretend taste and a ‘mmmm, yummy’ act first - it can get him quite tiptoey for the Tasty Thing. Maybe a couple of dummies with bits of cheese or whatever her usual passion is, then quickly followed by the meds hidden?

That sort of stuff usually works and I think it will when she's feeling a little better. Right now though, she's so quiet and low appetite and obviously feeling a bit rough so our options were really limited.

If Ginny gets funny about tablets, I make sure I hide it in a series of treats which I give one right after the other. So maybe Brie, sausage, Brie with tablet, sausage on her nose immediately she takes the Brie. She used to be terrible taking tablets and I had to give her thirteen a day after her op! The “warmup” and “chaser” generally meant she didn’t notice it at all.

Good to see Ella home, hope she is a bit more perky today.
Soaking tablets in warm butter is a good way to get Maisy eating them, I have also popped one on the back of her tongue, no forcing or rubbing needed and it goes down nicely.

This usually works with Ella too. I'm hoping it will work again as soon as her appetite improves.

OH opened her mouth, I put the tablets at the back of her tongue and gently massaged her throat. OH gently rubbed her ears (which she loves) while making sure she didn't throw her head forward to spit them out. Not fun and I don't want to have to repeat it but it was either that or take her back to the vet!

Glad she is home!! Quinn got really funny about food and tablets after her surgery - she was suspicious of food and treats for a couple months, spitting pieces of kibble out to make sure no pills! I used cream cheese and put it at the back of her mouth. Hope she continues to improve!

Up outside at 3.15am

Did a wee and a little bit of poo. It was two seperate segments of poo in two different spots of the grass. The consistency was perfect but I think the poor girl is suffering from a little "post surgery poo anxiety" (don't worry darling, many of us have been there 🙁😳).

But now she's just lying on the grass and won't come back inside. She's drooling a little so I wonder if she's feeling a bit nauseated.

So now I'm just sitting outside with her. Good job I'm not tired. Oh. That's right 😩

After half an hour she found a comfy spot in the lush grass and went to sleep so I popped her slip lead ( only used for these types of things) and encouraged her back inside. She went straight back to her crate and has gone back to sleep.

Perhaps the poo effort shook her up a bit. Not sure but I'll be keeping a close eye on her.

Ok, she's actually hungry but won't eat the "poisoned food" (the prescription food that I put tablets in last night).

I'm going to have to go to the shops to get something for her. Are poached white fish and/or chicken with rice the best options?

Any other suggestions?
