Annual Jabs

Maisy's annual vaccinations are due in a week or so but the vet won't do them. They are happy to leave them for up to 2 months as this is quite safe, they say.
I understand that they are not an emergency but are they not essential to our dogs' health?
I tried another vet but they say the same.

I am a bit worried about leaving it for so long, any thoughts?

The vaccines don't suddenly stop working.
They are boosters.
I would be pretty relaxed.
Weighing up pros and cons it is safer to stay home and safe and not expose yourself and Maisy and the vets to additional risks that are going to be for marginal benefit.
She will still be protected enough I would be confident in saying.

We got a reminder text yesterday about Monty's, I was planning on leaving it a further three months. However puppy is arriving with no vaccinations at all, so on vet advise he will probably have his around 10 weeks, so in four weeks time. I will probably get Monty's done at the same time if we have to go to the vet anyway.

The American Vet Assoc recommends vaccinations every 3 years, not every year. I can’t understand why vets continue to vaccinate every year. Some vets say vaccinations are for life. You could titre test to see if your dog needs the boosters.

Snowie had his puppy vaccinations. Thereafter, my vet has never said he needs further vaccinations.

I asked our vet whether they did 3yr instead of annual and they said we absolutely could buy they had to order a different vaccination in because they only stocked the annual. Plus, we still have to do heartworm and kennel cough vaccinations annually so I just continued as is.

There doesn't seem to be too much of a concern about regular boosters for humans so I don't worry too much about Ella having an annual booster either. Four years ago I had my whooping cough booster before having Nathan. This was given as a single injection with whooping cough, tetanus, diphtheria and polio. Now, four years later, I'll be having the same booster again which is much earlier than the usual 10 years (or possibly not even required again).

Brain is frazzled by not being allowed to walk my dog. I’m in a permanent state of frustration. And often feeling pretty pissed off. On the brink of explosion.
I saw something the other day about SA announcing that they were going to allow people to go out for a walk. Does this mean you'll get this restriction lifted soon?

OH and I think/talk of you often when we're out walking. I know that's not at all helpful to your situation but we do think of you and how tough it must be

That’s so sweet of you to think of me! Thank you!

The draft regulations are out. It says “restricted exercise allowed”, no “organized exercise, like gyms”. No details given. No mention of dog walking. We have till midday today to send comments. I’ve sent mine. Two points: It’s cruel not to take a dog out for a walk. And I am unable to work while my dog is seeking attention all day. I continue to pay my cleaner even though she’s not allowed to come to work. She has dependents who rely on her income. I rely on my income to pay her. By not being productive, I am in a precarious position regarding my own job.

If no dog walking is allowed, I will protest. Loudly. I am on the brink of going insane.

I feel so much for you, it must be so difficult not being allowed to walk your dog. You must feel so frustrated as must your dog, not good for you both but I suppose you just have to grit your teeth and go with it. If it is any help, I am thinking of you and with you in spirit x

We talk about you too, @M.F.
We consider ourselves so lucky that we've been able to walk our dogs throughout this situation, as often as they need, even when people with families were unable to go out. I've often mentioned to people we've seen how awful it is for you there, and friends in Dubai, too.
I really hope you get the easing up that you need really, really soon.

I think about you a lot too @M.F. - not sure it helps at all, but I really really hope it's lifted soon. We have friends in Cape Town who don't have a dog but are finding it very difficult. I really hope it improves ver y soon x

Yes @M.F. - you have been in our thoughts, I can't imagine how difficult the last few weeks have been for you. As ever, feel free to rant away on herex

I've just had a very optimistic conversation with my vet's receptionist:

Me - my adult dog's booster is due, which I'm not too worried about, but also we are bringing an unvaccinated eight week puppy home in two weeks. What would be the plan?

Her - That's ok, lockdown will be over in two weeks, just bring them in.

Me - Um - well - we don't know that, do we?

Her - It's fine, just bring puppy in at 8 weeks for vaccinations, no problem.

Sorted!

Yes @M.F. , us too, we say how hard others have it compared to us.....flat dwellers with and without dogs, as well as life in countries who have a rather "stricter " regime than us.
I sincerely hope you have a resolution soon.

I must admit to not having any idea how Angela is doing @snowbunny . Another dog-unfriendly and and tough laws region. Has anyone been in touch?
