What made you smile today?

My grandson is almost 6. He wants to learn to read and speak English. You know why...? He wants to read Harry Potter books. So he went to his teacher and asked her if she could learn him English. No she said, I won’t...He got mad at her, he desperately want to learn this. Then his mum said she would learn him some English words as a start. He also learned to ask if someone speaks English. So off to school. He asked his teacher “do you speak English?” Yes she said, I do speak English. He got more angry at her, and was frustrated that she didn’t want to learn him English. This weekend he comes to us for a sleep over. He has several things he want to do, first: learn to speak English, second: he wants to give a presentation about labradors and we have to look in our agendas for a date that he can take Finn with him to school....

In grade 2, there were 2 classes and both had new, young teachers who each had a dog. The greatest days were when they brought their dogs in - my teacher had a border collie, but the other class had a yellow lab. I was sooo jealous, I wanted to be in the class that got the yellow lab visit!

@Anne123 are you able to teach him English, or are you only able to read/write in English, not speak it? I love that he wants to learn it in order to read Harry Potter, what a lovely goal ❤
I am going to try to learn him English. I can speak English well enough....I had the best teaching experience in speaking English as I have had an English boyfriend. He lived in Scunthorpe and studied in Leeds......I started writing in English when I was 9. I had a pen friend of the same age, who lived in Plymouth. My girlguide leader was an English teacher who helped me with the writing as English was not taught at primary schools.

@Anne123 I can send my son Daniel over and they can chat about Harry Potter and Labradors!!!!
Daniel's Dutch school gave English lessons from groep 4. Basic things. Maybe we still have some easy English books that she can read to to help? She can borrow his English Harry Potter DVD's but maybe she has the English ones with Dutch subtitles?
App me if you are interested!!! X
That’s so kind and sweet of you!!! Victor is in groep 2... He is so eager to learn of everything....It’s a very bright and smart boy. He told his parents he doesn’t want to go to school for he wants to learn more...:giggl:
I will ask my son and DIL if they are interested. I’ll let you know!

In a similar situation a few weeks ago, I actually waded in to get the ball 😂 Brodie was looking at me with such faith and desperation that I couldn't let him down. Of course as soon as I went into the water Brodie jumped in too and I couldn't find the ball in all the mayhem so we just got very wet. And gave the passers by a good laugh😁
