I met a beautiful new señorita friend today. Her name is Lexi and she LOVED me! ML made such a fuss over her but I was so patient and good waiting while she told Lexi how guapa she is and how much easier Rottweilers are than Labradors and how Rottweilers are not obsessed with balls or fooood and…

wait just a minute! I believe I have been insulted and did not realize it at the time because I was dazzled by Lexi’s beauty! Vale, ML, see if I do not lick you in the face after licking my backside in the middle of the night.

Revenge is a dish best served cold. Or rather as warm as my fragrant tongue.

I still love Señorita Lexi though.

Momentary hijack of Carbon's thread ("Pfft!") to say that we are packing and on the move again on Thursday - our time in our beloved Cornbeefwall house Upperdeck went WAY too fast as it always does.

We were meant to move next door from Upperdeck to my landlords' house while they caravanned (sp?) around Scotland for the month of May. However, they got a burr in their bonnet (long story) and sold their camper van, so things were looking dire for Señor Carbon's continued surfing career.

We were saved - kind of - by our landlords' son's building project: making a guest house out of his garden shed. Not meant to be guest-ready until July, they offered it to Carbon and me for the month of May. I saw it last week and it was...unfinished. Very curious to see what it looks like on Thursday. Part of me is very grateful, as at this late date it would be challenging to find something else in Cornwall for an entire month. Part of me is very peeved that I'm going to into a converted garden shed with little privacy for the same price as I would have paid for a big lovely house with a private enclosed garden.

However, my newest thing is learning how to meditate and have gratitude, so I'm focusing on the part where "We have safe, clean housing to live in the next month that is close to our favourite surf beaches." And because I don't have to completely bust open my budget for emergency housing in Cornwall, that makes possibilities for a few nice places in June all the more...well, possible.

So one more month in Cornwall, then where will Señor Carbón and I head to? Land of the Midges? Land of Irish soda bread (yum)? Land of brie? Land of...well, whatever Wales is famous for? 😂

If the garden shed is unfinished, would they be willing to lower the price?

Reminds me of when a friend and I drove up to Byron Bay (popular Australian beach town) and started looking for affordable accommodation on arrival. So of course we were desperate! I can’t remember the fancy name of the place that we stayed in—sounded luxurious! It was the house garage. 😂 We kept reminding ourselves that at least it was clean and safe and had its own bathroom! And at least you don’t have to leopard crawl under a giant spider web to get through the gate, as we did!!

The answer is no (if they rented on the open market vs as a favour to their parents, the price could likely have been higher than what we agreed upon), however I do think it will be mainly finished. He was putting the wifi in on Friday and said he was planning on doing the fence this past weekend. The fence was the last thing and I already told them that while the fence would be lovely, it wasn't essential if they didn't have time. If they have prioritised the fence over things like the sink, stove, furniture, doors, etc., I will be very surprised. But you never know really!

OK, that puts it all into perspective, thank you! :cwl:

Ah the memories of Byron. One of my best friends married into a VERY wealthy Italian family (sadly long divorced). During the big pilots strike in the 80's Steve and I and 9 friends had booked a trip on an ex Sydney to Hobart Yacht in the Whitsundays but we ended up having to make the massive drive as we couldn't fly. My friends hubby said we could stay in his parents 'holiday house' in Byron as a stopover. Oh dear Lord - it was a 12 bedroom mansion up in the hills with both an indoor and outdoor pool and I can't describe the furnishings. It made me realise just what the mega wealthy really have. He (the hubby) was so down-to-earth we had no idea just how much money his family had. Sadly my friend saw not one red cent in the divorce but hey, that's life.

It's a different world! I did an exchange with a French student from Paris when I was at university. When I went to work in Paris after graduation, we were able to spend quite a bit of time together. She and her mother lived in the typical tiny Paris flat, but her father (long since divorced from her mother) was the minister of mines and oil for Gabon. He also had a flat in Paris - no one lived there, it was just for when he, his wives (he had 4 by that point) and his other numerous children would crash when they went on shopping trips to Paris. She and I stopped by one day to meet a few of her cousins who were in town for a few days (again, as you do when you have your own plane). No idea how big that apartment was as it went on and on and on and on. I didn't even know you could still call it an "apartment" when it was that many rooms! 😂

At the time I was less impressed than just angry - both that my friend and her mother (the first wife) didn't get their share of all that, but also the amount of sheer graft - stealing from a country that isn't exactly known as being super wealthy. Weird stuff goes on in the world!

Oh go on, you know you want to
Ha, my former landlord just came back to me with the price the owner wants for the month of June. The price he suggested to her I would have bitten on - a little out of my league but do-able. What the owner asked for was not what my former landlord suggested, however, and is out of my league. It's a decent price considering that the house is three bedrooms with a private garden and shared pool, but for one person it's just above my "maybe" range and into "don't be stupid". I might do it as a splurge, if it wasn't a 4 day drive down and another 3 days back to Germany - that's a lot of petrol in the TARDIS, plus nearly a week of hotel costs just for the drive.

I've told him I'll think about it but probably more interested in it off season if the owner will come down on the price. I imagine I just might end up there at one point or the other! 😁
