Today we went to Rutland Water about 25 miles from here - we took both dogs. DH wanted to take some photographs. The weather was glorious and we went to a really quiet bit of the water. To get to the water from the car we had about a fifteen minute walk. Sky walked very peg legged and she was panting (pain?). When we got to the water she became like the young dog she was - straight in for a swim - I could see her smiling. Then a family came along with a smallish poodle. Sky just loves children so she was almost prancing about and jumping in the water. We then went for a ten minute walk in the wood and went back to the car. She seems to have paid the price for her lovely morning - we have had all the doors open to the garden and she has stumbled in and out of them this afternoon. Her head has been doing the strange nodding/wobble it does but much more so. Makes me want to cry

Oh Alison I am so sorry. Such a sad ending to a lovely day - but I am glad Sky had a wonderful morning. xxx

Last evening I took Sky for her daily sniff. I met a neighbour who has a 13 year old black lab who has severe arthritis like Sky. Both dog were sniffing away (neighbour said walks are just a sniffathon these days - summed it up well). We swopped notes and they were so similar. They had had to cancel their yearly trip to the Lake District as their dog was ill. We are going camping ⛺ again this year and I am not anxious about it as we will have to make huge changes to what we usually do. I just worry Sky will find it all too much yet camping without Sky would not be the same - she has always absolutely loved it.

I am feeling a bit down about my lovely black girl. Nothing specific but I think she is now arthritic in her back legs - her gait is very stilted. She seems very flat in herself. She’s eating and going to the toilet ok but there has been a gear shift with her. My son and granddaughter arrived this morning - they regularly come as I take my granddaughter to school - she used to get so excited seeing them. Now she doesn’t even move from wherever she’s laying. My granddaughter especially goes looking for her to say hello but gets almost no response from Sky - there was a time when Sky was ecstatic at seeing her. She is also looking more for me now and coming to lie by my feet. I am taking things a day at a time and I am making the most of her presence. She’s such a lovely dog
