The Pig meets Shot and Game

Just to add to that. There is a huge difference between hunting a dog in a controlled manner and letting it free hunt. What does that actually mean 'let dogs be dogs'. All of my dogs do exactly what they were bred to do, which is hunting, flushing and retrieving. But if I didn't control the...

The Pig meets Shot and Game

I guess it is what you want to do with your dog. I work mine so letting them get into a habit of chasing anything is just not an option.

The Pig meets Shot and Game

Yes, that is still the advice I give to people whose dogs are hardwired to hunt. I am amazed that you were told 'to chill out about the running off chasing pheasants thing'. Once that becomes a habit, and it can turn into a habit in a very, very short time, it is almost impossible to undo...

    Biothane lead

I have never used a long line for training but if I ever were to use one I would probably go for a thin round biothene one. I just had look at amazon. The ones I mean are about £28 for a 5m line. I would put a few knots in the end so that you can stand on the line if necessary and it won't slip...

    Scary dog.

I would give those ‘social walks’ a miss for good. 15 or so dogs running free is a recipe for disaster on all sorts of levels. :)

    Alpha Spirit

One of mine is on a fish diet. The best kibble I have found so far is Essential Nautical Living. All my dogs love it!! Excellent customer service and I also like the company's ethical side, i.e. how they support rescue centres. One of them in Spain, a rescue for Galgos and Podencos.

But can you love them the same ?

Three of my five dogs came to me when they were out of the puppy stage. They were around 18 months or so of age. I love them as much as I love my two springer girls who I have had from a pup. One of the rescues is Amy my young Clumber. I can honestly say that I have never had a stronger bond...

    Hi Everyone

Hi there and welcome. If I didn’t have spaniels I would have whippets I think. Love them :)

    SUV/4wheel drive

The Lintran boxes in the photos above posted by @SteffiS are much lighter than the TransK9 boxes.

No, they are quite heavy. It is a two person job taking it in and out.

    SUV/4wheel drive

Yes, I was involved in a very nasty accident almost five years ago. I would never consider anything other than a crash tested make of travel box for my dogs. You can read the story here. Crash Tested Customer Stories for Dog Cages & Boxes | Transk9

The right trainer for you but the wrong trainer for your dog?

I am speaking from a spaniel person’s view point here. I would never take a very young spaniel to group lessons. The hanging around waiting for their turn will short fuse most young spaniels. So one to one lessons with breaks in the back of the car for the dog so that trainee and instructor can...

    Untidy moult

A Mars Coat King is a must for spaniel coats. It gets rid of the dead undercoat and also de-matts depending on how you hold it, so perfect for spaniel ears. A Furminator can cut the tip of the coat which can make it feel and look a bit blunt.

    Untidy moult

Murffi my chocolate cocker is the same. I had a good session with the Mars Coat King yesterday to get rid of the fluff, I couldn't stand the scruffy look any longer.

    I’m a bit late!

Having five spaniels that thought crosses my mind every day. That and keeping goldfish instead, I think about that a lot too. :p:ROFLMAO: Welcome to the forum. :)
