It sounds as though you are making great progress. It's really useful having your OH at training sessions - nobody likes being told that they are doing something wrong ... but that is preferable to not knowing and continuing to do it wrong! ;)

Well done. For many dogs the use of toys can actually be preferable to treats. I know that, these days, a lot of police dog handlers use a tennis ball as their reward for their dogs. Lovely write-up too - thanks for sharing.

Don't worry, I know that ;) As owners/trainers it is all too easy to accept the successes we have with our dogs as being 'normal' or 'expected' and to focus in on any negative aspects and give them undue emphasis. I know @Mrs UB certainly feels that I sometimes focus too much on Harv's...

To be fair to him I don't think Harv finds it that difficult doing the tasks - he just sometimes finds it hard to actually start the tasks if there is an interesting smell! ;) And, so as not to single him out for shaming, all bar one of the other dogs were also extremely interested in sniffing...

You do need to take a little care with this approach - in his younger days Harv gifted to me two torn pockets when I used this approach! (more fool me for trying it a second time! ;) )

Days 1-3 (3) done. The reduction in treats doesn't seem to be giving us any problems - I'm giving the treats randomly and giving gentle praise for the exercises where a treat isn't given.

Excellent stuff. :clap: Do you take a special bed or blanket to school with you for him to use or does he have a particular place at school where you ask him to settle?

We haven't stayed in many hotels with Harv but the restriction is usually 'not in the restaurant area'. This is usually a separate area to the breakfast room. There are lots of cafes in the Lake District so I'm sure you'll be able to find an alternative breakfast venue. Whereabouts are you...

Day 15 (2) done Pretty uneventful really ... which is exactly what we want :happyfeet: I think I'll give it another run through and reduce the treat frequency (whilst trying not to over-do the praise as this is more likely to move Harv than any of the daily challenges!)
