We covered Leave it in Angel's classes...but when we covered it with the behaviorist, we rewarded every time she disengaged. Next level was when she refused to engage. Level three was making eye contact rather than going for the thing. Then she added games like dropping treats, tower of treats...

    What made you smile today?

Shamas learned "touch" from Trixie He's always struggled to learn. He can sit, lay down, and sit, down sit. He can stay in a sit position, if I'm in sight. But tricks...he can't figure them out. Took me 45 minutes, and half a ham sandwich to teach a paw...and he only ever learned to offer the...

Hmm Not sure how I feel about the method for "Leave it" in class. Seems to me that what he's asking for is "Leave it, Look at me" I get the point-he wants eye contact, so the dog doesn't go straight away back for the thing you want them to leave. But it seems to be a chain of events, and she's...

pees in house after going out to pee

I'm actually looking for those--I had one I bought at Petsmart, for Angel. It held up good outside. I'd want two. One behind to keep her out of the flowerbed too, since digging is her main distraction. Failing that, I could get two f the one I have here in the living room....it's not at all...

    Trixie

Went for a walk with a puppy and came home with a drowned rat LOL. I saw the weather coming in, but figured I had more time...and AB just had a wisdom tooth out, so hasn't been doing much the last couple of days between the pain and the side effects of the meds. So we put on her leash, left...

pees in house after going out to pee

That, and I'm also concerned about territorial instincts. Angel used to jump Shamas as he came back in the yard. He ended up waiting outside of range of the leash. I noticed that as soon as I put Trixie on a leash out there, he did the same....He's not at all comfortable with a leashed dog...

pees in house after going out to pee

Quite possibly not. I clean up with a swiffer wet and Lysol. And I noticed that she had a propensity for just inside the back and front doors, and also the place where Angel's pen was(where she messed a lot as a puppy) She seems better about going outside since I put her on leash...she can't...

pees in house after going out to pee

Yes, that's essentially what I'm thinking of doing. For today, I'm putting her on Shamas old lead attached to the house--so she can't reach the dirt to dig, or the plants to hunt bugs. She doesn't like it much. But I'm tired of cleaning nearly all of her messes inside because she forgot to go...

pees in house after going out to pee

Help! I take Trixie out to pee, and she digs the dirt at my feet, chases flies, basically everything BUT pees....then comes inside and wets on my floors. She's 16 1/2 weeks now, and this is fairly new behavior....since it got rainy. She was consistently going outside. I don't use pee pads, as I...

    Trixie

So there's a second dog in the puppy class now. a pug puppy....he's the sweetest thing if a bit anxious. But I'd be anxious too if I was purse-sized in a room with a giant that looked like it wanted to eat me. It didn't take long to help Trixie through her excitement, but she's not yet been dog...

Living with Poppy - Update 7/7/22 (All going south!)

This is actually a really good idea. about 3/4 of Shamas issues dropped off the second we put a bag in his mouth, He was on the job. Fully focused, and intent on getting his prize home safe. You couldn't even offer him a treat in work mode. It also helped with "aggressive tendencies" because...

    Trixie

Hubby and I are talking about building a sandbox. If you can't beat em, join em lol. I don't want holes in the yard for shamas to trip in with his sore hips. This morning she was digging in the sand where we used to have the pool and every time I shhoed her off she bowed, ran a circle and dug...

    Trixie

The crate then wasn't too small(according to guidelines it was exactly the correct size). The issue was she came off a farm, and was placed in a crate to sleep at night, to keep her safe. She didn't like the arrangement, and cried to be let out. She only stopped crying if someone's hand was in...

    Trixie

Shoot! My crate's getting too small. The new one. I knew when I unpacked it that it wouldn't last long...I'd accidentally bought the size down from what I meant to buy. But I only bought it a month ago. I think I'll just jump straight to the biggest one, and discontinue the pen. I didn't even...

    Trixie

Trixie's in training officially now...though it's more accurate to say her owner is. I've started teaching Trixie since day one lol. AB would like Trixie socialised to wear a Halti sooner rather than later, knowing that she'll be rather large, and possibly hard to handle if she gets it into...

Help!~"bad puppy" behavior upon first waking

I give a sharp "off" if she jumps on the counter, but don't really react to jumping alongside me as I walk. She's getting the hang of going into the pen now, and sits for her food. I've taken to sitting on the couch, outside the pen, to put her food down just inside the door of it--it limits her...

Help!~"bad puppy" behavior upon first waking

Well, she already knew week one curriculum lol. Everything but "touch"...which I only introduced last night and haven't named yet. I introduced it as an alternative to nipping/mouthing..rewarding her for touching my hand with her nose before she had a chance to open up and chomp it lol This...
