Help!~"bad puppy" behavior upon first waking

@Beanwood thanks for this video--it's straightforward. I'm currently playing the one on mouthing/biting . REgarding the questions: 1: I was taught that a dog should not be fed if they're jumping on you for their bowl. That you should give it to them when they are restrained, to teach them self...

Help!~"bad puppy" behavior upon first waking

Now I just need to get her over Hand=sit lol! I think I should not have taught her sit first. now she thinks it's the key to all things. The second she sees a treat in my hand, she stops walking, and sits :laughdog: I mean, it's great in all other circumstances...."Off" sits down "Leave it"...

Help!~"bad puppy" behavior upon first waking

when we drive to walk, it's limited. SO we do this. Drive to a location, stroll around, stop to talk whilst rewarding sits. Walks in our area dont exceed the time, but she strains physically...that's where we run into that odd walk. I think she overdoes it pulling towards trees, posts, etc...

Help!~"bad puppy" behavior upon first waking

We saw it with Angel too--every time she went through a growth spurt, her legs seemed too long for her to use comfortably. She could move freely around the house and yard no problems, but the leash work seemed to put strain on the hind legs. It's where the bones grow, but the muscles haven't...

Help!~"bad puppy" behavior upon first waking

I seem to recall Angel got better behaved around 6m. And again after the first heat. It felt to me that the addition of the adult hormones settled her down. Being able to go for decent walks made a huge difference. At this age, we can barely walk around the block without developing a little...

Help!~"bad puppy" behavior upon first waking

I do this at home, but some of the curriculum shamas can't figure out. However, he's all about the treats and gets in the way trying lol! The plan is to have one person outside the training area eavesdropping and practicing with shamas Unfortunately policy doesn't allow older dogs in puppy...

Help!~"bad puppy" behavior upon first waking

I found this: I'm going to buy it. I remember Angel was really bad at this age too Trick training is mostly inhibited my shamas lol. I try to get Trixie to walk beside me, and Shamas shows up. He knows food is involved in training, and he LOVES training. so he gets in the way every time...

Help!~"bad puppy" behavior upon first waking

Most mornings we have 1/2 hour to 45minutes of outside time, where she runs circles in the yard. Or plays keepaway with Shamas. Then I feed her and let her back out to play. She doesn't retreive, but she's got good recall. So we use that to run her back and forth up and down the yard. I usually...

Help!~"bad puppy" behavior upon first waking

oooh I'm going to muzzle that dog. She's hit the crocapup stage. Hands, legs, furniture, SHOES. The only time she's not chewing is if she's got a pig ear, and those are expensive. YIKES! Finally resorted to Milkbones to distract her long enough for a moment's air...and I'm scouring Amazon.ca...

    Medicating anxious dogs

Shamas had just weighed in at 85lbs. Down from 89. I thought he was trimmer I'm at the vet right now because of Trixie having had Guardia and Shamas developed diarreah. So of course his stool just now is nice and firm lol. I suspect that the diarreah is stress related because another family...

    Trixie

Puppy classes are booked to start on the 19th. we will most likely miss the first week...it's too short notice to book time off work, and we're both scheduled into the time frame. But that's not a big deal. She's there more for the social learning than the trick learning. She already knows half...

    Trixie

I've seen them go both ways. My brother was bitten by one. I know a couple who were not trained young who have grown to be unmanageable. Training is the key to this breed. They are VERY intelligent, and cannot be allowed to go unsocialized or untrained. Allowed to be bored, they will find their...

    Medicating anxious dogs

Shamas went to a festival in the park yesterday :) The place was full of dogs, and he wasn't at all bothered. He wore his headcollar and muzzle ensemble, just to be safe...but he was in good form. He seemed to think it was a social hour and had to be reminded not to stop and greet other dogs...

Should we be ignoring our dogs?

I personally hate coming in to barking dogs...but ignoring them? I can't do it. I tried. The trainer told me to. I waited....and the second I saw a sign they were settling, I reached for the treats. Of course, two bums hit the floor. they weren't settled but they weren't barking either! Good...

    Trixie

Took the dogs to see Grandma today. She misses Shamas, who couldn't travel much when he was at his worst. And wanted to see the puppy. Was shocked at her size, but I pointed out that Trixie is a full month ahead of Angel, compared to when we got her. She remembers the tiny, boxy puppy she met...

    Trixie

We did end up going downtown. We rigged a side-bag as a carrier, and put a towel in the bottom to create a base for her to sit on. German Shephard purse pup lol! Shamas wore his muzzle, in case he started to feel overwhelmed....but was totally chill. He actually seemed to be feeling social...

    Trixie

We were thinking of heading down to the local festival...but are not sure what to do about Trixie. It's going to be crowded. The biggest crowd she's seen is the Metro staff rushing out of the store to see my new puppy lol. That was as many as 7? She did pretty good but is still too young to...

    Trixie

I have 4 days off work, starting today. That's 4 days to crate train Trixie better. I've moved her crate from AB's room to the living room due to the fact that her nightly tantrums became more than the poor thing could stand. In guilt-sodden tears, I was finally asked to remove the puppy...

Living with Poppy - Update 7/7/22 (All going south!)

After months of struggling with Angel's recall, this was in fact the only thing that worked for us. She would drop what she was doing to run and find out what was at my feet so interesting that I stopped to look at it!
