A traumatic morning.

I was woken by her whimpering quietly at about 5 am. She wasn't due any more painkillers so I made myself a bed on the floor next to her and cuddled her. The next thing I knew she was licking my chin and it was 8.45! Can't remember the last time I slept so late! She's been outside and done all the necessaries but then it was Tablet Time. The only tablets that she won't take are the antibiotics, which of course are important. I have tried all sorts of methods of disguising them but she's too clever for me and either plain refuses or else spits them out, so I've decided that honesty is the best policy and for now I'm opening her mouth, putting them at the back of her throat, holding her mouth closed with her nose pointing upwards and stroking her throat until she swallows, then giving chicken and loads of praise. It works, in that she swallows the tablets but I hate doing it and she is currently hiding under the bed and nothing will persuade her to come out, not even chicken, so if anyone can think of a better way of doing this I would be grateful for ideas. Otherwise she seems a little brighter than yesterday and the wound remains clean and dry. Thanks for your thoughts and good wishes.

We had to do the same with tablets after Ella's surgery last March. I found that shoving the tablets back with a big blob of peanut butter helped as she was then able to lick the rest of the peanut butter off my hands. As she started to feel better, I no longer had to shove the tablets down and, by the last day, she ate the tablet blob straight from my hand

We have always used your method with Sky as she would not take medication any other way. I used to hate watching F do it although he was always very gentle and loving. We have occasionally had to do the same with Red - she is better at taking things.

Joy will forgive you. Sorry she was whimpering but good you both went back to sleep - that will do you good.
