Angel. Born June 30th.

After over a year and two failed attempts to get a puppy, we have Angel. Born June 30th, to a coworker of mine, Angel will join us either end of August of beginning of September depending on her level of attachment to mom.

Sire is a CorsoxDane with a beautiful temperament. Mother is rottiexshephardxlab and a touch high energy but not a bad dog.

Puppies show a hefty dose of the mastiff breeding in them, all being on the stocky side with tan/brindle coloring. I'm waiting to see how her personality plays out.

This will be my daughter's dog, to be raised at our family home in preparation to move out with her as a big dog. Thus, her room is set up as a small apartment, and the puppy will live in there nights, and when left alone. During her work hours, we have arranged for one or the other of us to puppy-sit and toilet train. I'll set up a crate in the dining room next to the PC for puppy-sitting.

The plan is to train side by side with Shamas...never hurts to run him through training lol. He likes treats. and with her working bloodlines, I want to train her to carry things, like Shamas does. She'll have both a harness and a martingale, until we learn how she walks best. Harness for general sniffy walks, and martingale to teach and lead. 2-ended leash.

I'll keep this updated, as time passes. BE nice to have a log from birth.

Its busy times here.

There are jobs planned and I want them done before she comes home. The last thing I want are tools on the floor with a new puppy.

Today, I'm painting. Only I keep forgetting I'm not a professional...my dad can do a room in a few hours and I'm frustrated that I'm on day 2

Does this make you feel better... This is what puppy Bear age 8 weeks came home to, this was straight out of our back door to the garden IMG_20200507_153639769.jpgIMG_20200507_153629539.jpg

Wow, weren't you concerned? I'm paranoid she'll eat something she shouldn't. I only know about puppies from reading..and my dad got chloe about 6 years ago. She had to be constantly watched. Like a baby just learning to crawl......everything in the mouth

Went to visit the puppies today. Angel is tiny, and vocal. Sierra, the mother dog, took to me immediately, climbing in my lap and having a full rubdown in between showing off her puppies

It was interesting to see, because they said she normally doesn't take to people so well....which I saw when the next family showed up and she became stressed out, and anxious over the pups. 20210716_180716.jpg20210716_180419.jpg20210716_180148.jpg20210716_171857.jpg20210716_173603.jpg20210716_180213.jpg20210716_171755.jpg

Yes, very! It was slightly better than this when he came home, but not much. Not a lot we could do, OH got a Rusty nail in his leg and had to go to hospital for a tetanus shot and strong antibiotics. He was really rough for a few days as I think the infection had already started to set in. We postponed Bear's pick up for two days, and the deck was finally done within about five days of him being home. His own little sandpit 🤣

No, sometimes life tosses curveballs we just can't help.

Is it just me, or does the mother look part doberman? That face is very slim for a rottie shephard, even with some lab. She's a reserve mutt, so could be part anything lol.

Shame we didn't get appolo last year....his parents were both pedigree. But without papers I wasn't transferring money

What is her breeder going to use?
There isn't going to be one answer for this.
Consider what your budget is.
Also what is available locally as opposed to just online.
Grain free?
And of course what will suit your new pup.

All about dog food might help, but it is UK based and might not cover all your local dog food brands.

I just love the OEM colouring on Angel and many of the other pups. Cute as a button. ❤

My only advice regarding food is to remember that this is a giant breed. Feeding for slow growth is important for proper joint development and longevity. A giant breed like a mastiff (or mastiff mix in Angel's case) can take 3 years to get to their full height and weight. So Angel may need quite a bit less or different food than other smaller dogs you've raised, even if that seems counter-intuitive. I'm well out of that scene so can't recommend any resources, but you might want to have a look around for forums, breed clubs, etc. that specialise in the giant breeds like OEMs, Rottweilers, and other kinds of mastiffs.

Or maybe Angel just has OEM colouring and is going to be "Labrador-sized"...? In which case, feel free to ignore me entirely. 😂
