change of behaviour post neuturing?

He is being very odd.

Took him out for a little wander. Put his lead on and he lays down and refuses to cross the threshold of the door. So taking @snowbunny advice I just said ‘okay doke’ and took his lead off. He then toddles out of the door quite happily without his lead on 🙄. I put it on outside the door and he’s all about the tail wag.

We meet two dogs on the walk and he was VERY interested (trying to wrench my arm off) but in the next breath is sticking to my leg like he is a heel walking master!

I think you’re right, his routine is all up the spout, we rarely have him on the lead during the day for walks as we have so much countryside around us - leads are used for his evening walk and for heel training but that’s about it.

Poor baby.

He was still a dick in the restaurant though 😂

We noticed no difference whatsoever with Maxx. He was a dick before the op and still a dick after |(

I finally convinced Steve that we need to take him to training. We start on Sunday but I fear he'll find another excuse not to go. It's a big - actually huge - group so it might be too much for Maxx but it is inexpensive and a good place to start. Almost every dog owner we meet have taken their dog and recommend it

@Cupcase it was at the stage where it was ridiculous. On one occasion we had a dog run from the other end of a football pitch to pin him to the floor!
That's us, hence my losing the plot on a beach in macrahanish and now Cupar is ready to defend himself.
I really hope it makes a difference. My last male was neutered at 18 months but he was bomb proof, no fear in him, no agression and it never changed his personality but looking back, I do think it helped make him more 'neutral', in his 14 years, he never had an issue with any dogs.

I sit on a fence with neutering Cupar, I also wonder if it's too late, as he's 5 next month.

I don't think Chewie's behaviour changed one bit and I regret letting the vet pressure us into neutering him early. I guess their expectations are calibrated for the lowest common denominator in pet owners... also, I thought he might be a bit more cautious about visiting the vet, but no... he still tries to drag us in there everytime we walk past! It's full of nice ladies who cuddle him and give him chimkin... not to mention the site of puppy classes.

I have notice that he gets humped a fair bit by other dogs though. It doesn't seem to bother him. He just goes about his business. I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that he is neutered? Today a huge 9 month old Lab (much bigger than Chewie!) was humping him frantically, much to its owners shame...

Maxx is the same at the vets - the old kangaroo on methamphetamine at the end of the lead - to our shame. He knows the veg nurse will give him treats (while trying to sell us most of their inventory). However we have the opposite problem where Maxx sometimes humps other dogs which we quickly stop. Not many try to hump him

Mas hasn’t humped anything since he’s been done... his recall is also now absolutley blinding (in fairness it’s always been good but he’s very responsive right now)

No change in the way other dogs respond to him yet though.

I feel the same way with Ella's early spay. Our council says that you can't register without desexing but I've since looked closer and realised that the fact that her and I are both registered with Dogs Vic and our dog club means that we didn't have to to desex :(

The annual fee is sooooooo much higher though

I really regreted it with my old boy I suspect and so did my vet that it altered his endocrine system enough to help his lupus get started. He was a lovely but his life was altered by this condition. I didn't castrate Rory and have never regretted it. I've found the behaviour of both was pretty much the same. I would not neuter now unless there was a medical reason.
