Chatting to our dogs whilst out and about

Do you ? I do , and I`m guessing most of you do too , I don't even think about it ! This afternoon, walking the small one , she had stopped to investigate a clump of grass, like they do and I waited patiently for her , no use calling her away as she wont hear me and I keep the whistle for more important things ! Eventually , she had enough and ran to me, whereupon I smiled at her ( she likes that ) and said , What a good girl Nelly ! Now ok , chances are she cant hear a thing , but she does know when I`m happy with her , and I always used to chat away to Sam .
At the same time , two men dressed in suits ( odd in itself in the middle of a wood ) were about to cross my path and as they did , I heard one remark, in a loud voice " Fancy talking to your Dog " to which I replied " Better than talking out of your bum" only I didn't say bum !

I talk to Homer all the time - Which way would you like to go? this way? that way?, sometimes I'm able to hold a whole conversation.

At home Hubby regularly calls out "Are you talking to me or the dog?" usually the dog.

I chat more to Hattie & Charlie than any humans I know! x

All the time, and he listens. When we're on a walk I'll often tell him where we're going next ("this way!") or say 'mmm, does that smell nice? Oh well DONE for leaving it!' etc. And OH generally natters if they're by themselves, I'll regularly hear a 'what a good boy, yes, lovely cuddles, oof - you're getting heavy' etc.

You sound unfortunate with your oddball dog sceptics, quick and highly appropriate response tho'

My dogs get their ears talked off. I tell them what I'm doing and why and what we will do after and what games we'll play etc. They think I'm nuts but they aren't that sane themselves.

I chat to Mabel all the time. I was once chatting away to Mabel when a lady walked passed me and said “I talk to my dog too”. I didn’t realise I spoke so loud.

Always...I only get embarrassed when someone hears me praising her in my “dog” voice. My trainer used to laugh her head off because we say “Quinn you’re sooo beautiful!”

Speaking of which, why do we always ask them questions?

"Who's a good boy?"
"Who's the prettiest girl in the whole wide world?"
"Are you the bravest girl in the world?"
"Are you my special angel girl?"
"Who's the handsomest boy who ever did live?"

I wonder if they're thinking, "YES! It's ME, idiot!!"

I always say good boy and he smiles but I said it to a patient the other week. Just the same "oh good boy". Patient looked at me oddly he he he. I smiled it away with my general quirkiness. Some times my inner dialogue escapes I say very inappropriate things it's lucky I have a dog with me. I can pretend it's the dog I'm chatting too.

I do that to J sometimes, too. He looks most put out. Did you just talk to me like I was a dog? Ummm.....yup!

Yes, I chat away to Molly and having taught four and five year olds for years I tend to use that voice. Today at the river, Molly playing with possibly her favourite item, a plastic bottle - 'If you bite the lid off your bottle it's going to fill up with water and sink.' And when the inevitable happened - 'Never mind we'll find another one at home.'

a similar thing , a patient said to me "you sound as if you are talking to a dog", I was mortified for a minute, then I said, well, I do have a dog who I love to bits and I talk to her like an equal, and she said "Yes, I know dear, I can tell !"

I heard someone laughing the other morning on our walk as I was saying "we best get back home, mummy has to go to work to keep you in the life you're accustomed to" and a man was just stood laughing at me
