Doggy brags

Another decent night at Dog School. Meg(an) Sparkle didn't go for anyone. We had to pass by Ruby lots of times (a lovely black Lab), Meg hates her, but I really relaxed my lead and my arm and Meg just trotted next to me (and my bit of pizza crust).
We had a boys vs girls challenge - 4 women & dogs facing 4 men dogs, walk towards each other, then on the word, down you dogs by your side. Meg & Bertie let the girls down by not lying down straight along side, they went on an angle. I did a little bit of practice during the "play with you dog" bit, then we did it again and she was perfect. As was Bertie. Girls won! (Coco didn't let the boys down, a couple of others did though).

Walking Joy along the towpath today, she had trotted on a few yards ahead of me when all of a sudden there was the Ping ping of a bicycle bell from alarmingly close behind me and before I could get near to Joy or call her to me, a posse of twelve cyclists was whizzing past at breakneck speed:angry: I called out 'Joy, sit!' She sat. 'Joy, stay.' She stayed. I kept calmly(ish!) repeating 'Stay' as they all zoomed past her and she did! She just sat calmly looking at me as all twelve went past. The last one shouted 'Thankyou' to me, then added over his shoulder 'Very impressive!' I called back 'I thought so too!' Then went and made a mega mega fuss of her with loads of liver paste. OK, it's something we get to practice pretty much every day because most of our walks are in part on the towpath, but I don't care what anyone says, that really was an impressive Sit Stay with all that whizzing going on and it kept GGJ and everyone else safe and so today she's the best little dog in the whole wide world and I couldn't be more proud of her! Brag done! Time for shower and pyjamas and in a while that G&T with a banana, yoghurt and squeeze cheese Kong for my own GoodGirl!:star:

Oh ho! Coco has not done ANYTHING with "target" at least since we've had Meg, and quite a bit longer. After seeing one of @Beanwood Kate's videos with Otter running to the target stick, I was nudged into trying again. Just now, Meg was out in the garden & Coco was looking for something to do or eat. I noticed the target stick....worth a try. Put it on the ground & stood with Coco a foot away. "Target" - he went straight to it & touched it with his nose. Try 5 feet away - YAY! Coco! Then Meg came in - she probably hear him munching hot dog. So I called them both to heel, "target" - and Coco did it again. Twice more. Oh I love my boy, he's such a bright lad.

We did some more whistle recall in the rugby field today and Maxx was spot on every time. Except once he raced to Steve instead of me as he must have been confused about who blew the whistle - but that's ok.

Then there was a dog in the distance so we walked him over on lead and he was straining to get to the dog. Steve got him to sit and LAT and I stood just a few feet away and pipped. He whipped around and ran to me! From another dog! Given I was only a few feet away it isn't so amazing but we want to build up to stopping him mid-bolt off lead towards a dog or the road one day.

Well done and yes it is amazing. Never doubt that cause you have to remember where you came from with Maxx and now look at where you are with him.
