Doggy brags

Up on the moor thismorning, Joy and her friend Bonnie, a lovely little Golden Retriever were having a good game of swimmy fetch, Joy for her ball and Bonnie for her frisbee. We were joined by a young Vizsla called Poppy, who was having a great time chasing the Swallows that swoop around the pool, much to everyone's amusement. Then a couple of the Swallows swooped over the pool, quite low. Poppy ran after them and suddenly found herself out of her depth in the water for the first time ever. She was trying to swim, but was remaining too upright to actually get anywhere and was looking quite panicky. I couldn't say which of them made the first move, but without hesitation Joy and Bonnie swam out to her. They put themselves one on either side of her and started swimming back to shore. Poppy stopped panicking, lowered her body into the water more and then was swimming perfectly well in between them, to applause from all onlookers. Joy and I carried on with our walk and called back at the pool towards the end of it so that she could have a drink. Poppy and her humans were also there, Poppy enjoying another swim. The young woman with her said 'I'm glad we've seen you again, I wanted to thank you for your dog swimming out to Poppy like that.' I said that was nice of her, but it had been nothing to do with me whatsoever, Joy and Bonnie did it entirely of their own accord.
I felt ever so proud of my kind girl though, and moved by how she and Bonnie went to help a younger dog.:inlove::inlove::inlove:

The only other example of dogs' kindness to each other that I have seen in real life was when we had Tess staying with us one time. Out on a walk Joy accidentally dropped her beloved ball into the canal and it drifted beyond reach. Joy won't go into water that she can't get herself out of, so was looking at her ball and crying. Tess, older and bigger than Joy, jumped into the canal, fetched the ball, managed to haul herself out of the canal and put the ball down infront of Joy (I seem to remember I posted about it at the time, it must be 2-3 years ago now.) I have seen things on television about dogs and other animals helping each other out, it's always heartwarming and moving and makes me wonder why anyone would think that humans are in any way superior.
