Fan ye gaan awa wi tha quines…(Gardenstown and The Moray Coast)

Today we went for a walk from Gardenstown to Crovie. Mum has all the interesting information on these places so I’ll leave that part to her… I’ll just post some photos! :giggl:

After our walk, we decided to do some geocaching instead of going back to our cottage for a nap (in my case…)

OK, my contribution....

Walking around the foot of the cliff from Gardenstown towards Crovie, apparently a bit dicey at high tide, but fabulous view of Crovie which is basically a row of houses cut in the cliff and a path (no road) with a drying line.
I think a lot of these houses are either used for holidays, although also crafters work here. Parking at the top of the village only!

Beautiful photos! As far as 'catching your breath ' goes, I always call it 'admiring the view'.
I admire a lot of views nowadays!

There was a memorial at the harbour.
I love these quotes:
"A grand ship mate an afa easy to get on wi".
Also, "Ah'm not allowed to go to sea and fecht, they think ah'm too auld".

Girls enjoyed this beach. Lilly is a bit obsessed with eating the dried seaweed. The beach is one of many St Drostan visited. There is an eponymous well here.

We had a good last day 😊

Those would be Red Deer would they?
I think so, but no expert. They are a lot chunkier than the local deer we see in our Woodlands and farmland.

Great photos. Fascinating houses clinging to the base of cliff, are they fishermen?
Traditionally, yes.
As I think I mentioned previously, all gable end on for the wind. There were quite a few with windows, all VERY securely shuttered. Quite a lot of seats and benches, either cabled to the houses or with very big sandbags on them.

Loved the photos. How do they get those boats into the water!
The ones at the harbour? Sophie and I were wondering that, as to whether they were old and just for decoration, or still saw active service. Not sure. There was a heritage centre close by, so could just be to look pretty.
It was closed. Like most things. Very firmly in Off Season.....

Wow! It looks so remote, especially with the houses clinging to the shore with no visible land access… and yet there’s a DPD van in one photo! Thanks for sharing your lovely short break.

I loved these photos (again). 😍

I really don't understand how those houses have survived there, though - wouldn't one decent storm wipe them out?
They're made of stern stuff up over the border!🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
Even more than us folk here in Wild and Windy West Yorkshire! (Probably should include Lancashire in that as well, for Mags and Tatze, I worked over their way for 20 years and it was just as bad as here!)
Grim Up North, as I have remarked before. :cold::cwl:
