Gizmo is hospitalized

Bit of an update, they upped his potassium even more through out the day yesterday. So when I got to visit him last night his potassium was back in normal range. But his neurological symptoms still remained. Those symptoms should go away within a few hours of potassium being back to normal.. but they didn’t. So that’s concerning.

They did another kidney test, SDMA I believe it was, which detects early kidney issues, and that came back slightly elevated. The other two kidney tests came back normal. They did an X-ray and noticed calcification in his bladder I believe it was. Which would indicate kidney stones but they weren’t shape of stones, it was calcification. so then I told them he’s always been a heavy drinker and when I clean his litter box his urine is huge. Which I didn’t know was abnormal... guess they should be more baseball sized, his is more like the size of a frisbee and a few inches thick too... so now they are leaning more towards kidney issues. Which can go one of two ways, either it can be manageable for a few years or it won’t be manageable.

so next up is an ultrasound.. to check his adrenal glands, kidneys and heart. Also learned he has a level three heart murmur too 😩 I might have to drive him 4 hours away for an ultrasound as where I am in the Okanagan they are booking a week in advance and that’s too long of a wait for him.

if ultrasound comes back normal then next step is CT scan to see if it’s his brain :(

not feeling hopeful at all :(

This is how he holds his head now. I visited him last night for an hour. He didn’t want to be held. He just wanted to den under a shelf or lie in a corner. He didn’t purr once for me. He still is walking stiff legged. He did eat some while I was there but otherwise he slept for about 50 minutes

Not that this will be helping you, but my neighbors cat had something similar. Vet had no clue what was the matter. My neighbor thought he ate a poisoned mouse...? Never got any answer. The vet put him on prednisone and after two weeks I think he was on the mend....

I hope you get some answers soon! :thelambiesarecoming:
I was worried he ate something poisonous too but they said his symptoms don’t match rat poisoning or antifreeze or anything like that. And if he did find a pill left over from previous people who lived here then it’s too late to fix it, as the damage is done
