Got Reuben booked in

Sorry Kate, it's not nice having to cancel something you put a lot of thought into. I hope all your tests go well and they can sort out the pain in your leg. Reuben will be Reuben either way.

If you’re having issues with him, ask about Suprelorin. It will give you six months or so to assess the difference in him and if it improves things, a bit of peace while you’re dealing with your own stuff.
Is there a minimum age to use Suprelorin, do you know?

It’s more important to sort out your pain first, Kate. Reuben’s op need only be postponed so that you can manage it better once you’re feeling more mobile again.

I want to sit and weep, my poor lad . @Emily_Babbelhund came over this afternoon which was lovely as the sun was shining so we sat out in the garden . Normally , Reuben and Carbon just play, chasing round the garden having fun but today , Reuben spent the entire time crying and trying to hump poor Carbon , my poor lad got himself into a terrible state and had to be put indoors where he cried pitifully . Emily could not believe the change in Reubs, it is truly horrible to see him like this , he would not be distracted . Its an awful shame, heart breaking for me and Paul and must also be horrible for our lad . He has no other ` issues `, he is not aggressive , not nervous, not anything really apart from having become a sex pest , poor boy

Sorry Reuben wasn't his old self. He maybe would have been OK on a walk, but in the garden with nothing else to think about he's turned his energies to Carbon. Hope you still got a good old chinwag with Emily though x

I honestly dont think it would have made any difference on a walk , Reuben and Carbon have often just met up on our garden or Emilys garden , and this has never ever happened before . Yes , we did manage a good old chat, once I had put Reuben indoors  And now the poor soul is worn out , absolutely exhausted , it makes me so sad x

I never had an issue with Stanley being neutered.

There wasn’t really a recovery as such, just lead walks for a week or so. The first night he was a bit funny after the GA but apart from that it was straight forward x
I think Monty was the same, 7-10 days on lead, quick vet check up and away. You could also see if you could try chemical castration first as there's no surgery involved then?

A neutering op is over quickly, a bit of crying the night of the op because of the anaesthetic and then lead walking for ten days (or less if you are me!). However, it does seem strange that Reuben should suddenly exhibit sexual behaviour especially with male dog. I think a trip to the vet.

It would seem that Castrated males ( Carbon is castrated ) are desirable to entire males as I believe that they give off a similar scent to female dogs . Reuben had a thorough check up at the Vets very recently when he went for his Lepto shot , he is healthy, fit as a fiddle and good as gold , apart from this development over the past few weeks/months . He has no other issues , soft as a brush which makes this so horrible for him x

It was wonderful to see you @kateincornwall and I think it was more upsetting for you as Carbon just seemed a mystified and told Reuben off when he'd had enough. The difference was night and day from our last visit (which would have been last June) and Reuben is clearly tormented by his hormones, poor boy. Underneath he's the same sweet pup: he seemed as confused by it all as Carbon was!

I know you were distressed at moments, but it was still a great visit and Carbon is tired and happy as a clam this evening. The drive was amazing too - spring has sprung in Cornwall! I swear that the last time I was out, only four days ago, there was just the odd daffodil but none of the hedges were in bloom. Today it was a riot of white and yellow. How does that happen? For someone who grew up in a place with only two seasons and flowers pretty much year round, seeing everything pop out at once after three months of bare branches just gets me every time! ❤

Just a general nosy question, (again) have you seen all the seasons in the UK Emily?
