Thinking of you, Naya. The right choices are often the toughest to take - as horrible as it is for you, you've done what is best for Harley.
Run free lovely Harley 🌈

Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. I went out for a few hours yesterday which was good, but coming home and not being greeted was devastating.
Being my first ever dog I never really understood how it would feel to loose her. She really was my world and helped me through so much and I still can’t believe she’s gone. I can’t bring myself to move her bowls, toys or beds yet.

Losing a first dog is so heartbreaking.
I agree. I don’t think it’s EASIER to lose dogs after the first, but it definitely becomes a different kind of hard, maybe a resigned kind of hard because when you get your second dog after the grief of your first, you know more what you’re signing up for. And getting the second dog is accepting that as horrible as the grief is, it was worth it the first time around and worth it the second (or third, or fourth…) time around too. That’s how much our beloved dogs mean to us.

All that to say, the shock of the first one is a unique kind of terrible. So as the others have already said, give yourself grace, @Naya. One day at a time.
