I remember posting this once before as to how we gave Sky her medication as she refused it given with food. It maybe seems a bit harsh to some but it used to work for us and it got it over and done with quickly (so please don’t judge). We’d hold her gently but firmly and open her mouth - drop the tablet in, shut her mouth and stroke her throat - this ‘made’ her swallow. I understand just how worried you are @Naya and send ‘s for you and :thelambiesarecoming:‘s for Harley

This is what we ended up doing this morning after speaking to the vet. We put butter on it. Harley shuts down and gets highly stressed at the vets so we didn’t feel taking her in other day was suitable.

I agree that, if hiding a pill in food really won't work, then just opening the dog's mouth and pushing it down without any fuss is the best option. It's over quickly and if you get it far enough back they won't taste it much. If I have to have unpleasant but necessary medical treatment I'd rather they just got on with it! Really sorry you're having all this stress though Naya.

We are managing to get the antibiotics in her by putting in butter and pushing to the back of her mouth. We are then praising her loads and giving her fuss and a few pieces of chicken. This seems u to o be helping and she’s not running away as much.
Eating is still an issue. She’s having g about 1/4 of her breakfast, refusing her frozens and usually eating about 3/4 of her tea.
We had a short walk this morning. Lots of sniffing which was good. It was a very slow walk but I think it done her good.

Very well done for working out a way to make sure she gets her antibiotics! I'm sure this is a massive step in the right direction and she should start to improve from here on. Good that she's managed a short walk and was interested in sniffing. I wouldn't worry about her not eating much for now, I'm sure her appetite will return as she recovers.

Place the tablet(s) into the syringe. Put the plunger back into the syringe as far as you can. Add tap water that is at room temperature (not cold, warm or hot) to a medicine cup. Using the syringe that has the tablet(s) inside, pull 2 to 3 mL (milliliters) of water into the syringe.

The antibiotics are going in every day, but unfortunately she isn’t really getting any better. She is eating better, but the swelling hasn’t gone down and she won’t put her foot flat still. My OH took her up the road for a very short walk as she kept pestering him and sitting by her collar and ended up carrying her home
We are back at the vets Thursday late afternoon.

I hope she starts improving soon. Merlin once had an infection in his foot, which in the end had to be opened so the pus could flow out. After that he got better very quickly.
