Librela - a new option for pain relief for dogs with osteo arthritis

Golden paste is easy to make.
1/2 cup turmeric powder
2 cups water
Bring to boil, then lowest heat for about 7-8 mins, stirring constantly (sticks to bottom of pot)
Let cool.
Mix in 3 teaspoons freshly ground pepper and 1/3 cup oil (coconut or olive oil).
Freeze in small batches as it goes off in the fridge after a week.

You can also add cinnamon. Snowie stinks of cat wee when he eats a lot of turmeric. The cinnamon apparently takes away the smell. I think it works!

Thank you everyone. I have ordered some, but will give it a go to make some too.
How much should I start Fred on please, with the home made one?

Mash it into something delicious; he might not eat it plain. Alternatively, freeze them in pea-size amounts and feed like a pill. For Snowie, I mash it into a sweet potato and veg mixture and feed by hand.

And don’t let him wipe his mouth on the furniture afterwards. Stains!!!! I wipe Snowie’s mouth after every meal cos he loves to use our cream sofa as a mouth and face wiper!

@Cath Another supplement to consider is Hyaluronic Acid. It's not a wonder drug but it definitely seems to help. I've been giving it to Molly for about a year and taking it myself for a similar amount of time. With myself, after taking it for 3 months and having less pain (in fact no pain at all in one knee) I stopped taking it for a month and the pain returned, so I feel I've shown it to be effective for me, as within a couple of weeks of restarting things improved again, again pain-free in one knee and less pain in the other leg. I think it's helping Molly.
