Librela - a new option for pain relief for dogs with osteo arthritis

I know it’s not a cure, just to ease the pain. It’s the pain that she is in. Previous injections she would let us touch and massage her wrist, this time she won’t let us near it. She’s also been licking the area which is unusual. She also doesn’t want to go far on walks which again is unusual. It’s horrible to see as she has always been so active.
I'm so sorry Naya. Poor Harley :(

Does she have an anti-inflammatory medication, that would help. Rourke also has ketamine injection added into his monthly Librela, you could ask your vet about that.

She used to have metacam, but they didn’t think it helped as she was on it for so long so May have become immune to it. I will definitely ask the vet about that too. Thanks @Jelinga 😊

Lilly has joined the Librela club.

Heavy limp on her very stiff sore right elbow and more struggles with her hips, longstanding known hip dysplasia. Really struggling to sit down recently. Bit of a crunchy spine too.
More incontinent than she was, stool wise, which I think related to spinal arthritis.

The increase of gabapentin to 300mg tds has made no difference. That is along with 500mg paracetamol bd, her yumove plus and Golden paste.

Fingers crossed 🤞

I really hope it helps darling Lilly, keep us posted x

Rourke found Librela helped and now he has a ketamine injection once a month at the same time. He is still very lame, only has one good leg and is getting weaker on hind legs, but seems happy which is the main thing.

Poppy has also joined the Librela club, had her first injection two weeks ago. She seems happier in herself, but it has not helped with her limp, which actually seems to have got worse (probably because we took her off the double dose of Rimadyl and now she just takes one a day). We are going to do the second injection as well, but so far the jury is out.

I hope the Librela helps Lily and Poppy. GGJ is showing clear signs of improvement on it, but it seems to wear off a bit in the run up to her next injection. The vet has said there is room to increase the dose from 15mg to 20mg with no reported increase in side effects, so I've asked for a further discussion of this at her next appointment, which is on Thursday. We have some exciting adventures coming up in the not too distant future and I want her to be able to enjoy them to the full!:dug:

The lameness may be due to the damaged mechanics of the joint and the Librela will help with any pain.

I suspect that paracetamol brings her no revenue... She wanted me to try some homeopathic injection into the joint. No thank you.
That’s so distressing questioning the motivation of the vet. We had similar with a holistic vet. Paid a small fortune for all the homeopathic injections (for itchy skin and back ache) with iffy results. But now our regular vet has said to explore all the non-drug options, and only use the “hard stuff” when absolutely necessary. So we’ve been giving Snowie Traumeel (arnica and other stuff). It’s not cheap either, but our vet doesn’t get any benefit—we buy it from the pharmacy. Not sure it has had any effect. My mother is 86 and amazing. Teaches yoga. And swears by arnica. I take arnica by the handful and I can’t say it does anything for me. I’m undecided on the efficacy of homeopathic meds.

I have no faith in homeopathic medication, but worth a try to see.
