We used a blanket to get our old dog Robbie out of the car, like you said taking two corners each and lifted him out.
We left him on the blanket on the kitchen tiled floor and he was fine. When he woke up, he was a bit woozy, but he managed to get out into the back garden to do a wee.
Just a thought @MellowYellow, I would get another person if possible to help with the middle part of the blanket because of the weight.

I told them I will be in so ring if you have too. They rang as he was screaming the place down so I had to go and comfort him and them. They use different sedatives with him now so it's ok but I do have to go and get him early. Merlin may well be able to walk with support you'll just have to lift him. Rory just wants to sleep and I don't worry about toileting too much but keep him warm. I send food with him and he's always managed to eat it before I get there. He's just very very vocal and upset. It's a very quick op really and they do recover quickly.
