She has gone. The day we got her, we promised we’d give her a good life and we have given her the best life. The end was calm and peaceful and we were both with her. Sky will never be forgotten - always in our hearts 
I sorry she's gone but glad you were with her. She was a lovely girl. Love to you all XX

Thank you everyone for your kind comments and hugs which mean a lot to me. I am pleased that I could share my lovely girl with you in her old age. She was such a gentle Labrador. There have been lots of tears this afternoon but in our hearts we know we did the kindest thing for her. We both feel a sense of relief she is no longer suffering. We have told the family - they are upset and hurting too but so understanding as they have observed her decline over quite a long period of time. Today has been a long day and the horrible realisation that everything you do for her is the last time. The staff at the vet practice were excellent - so kind and calm and professional - we are so grateful to them. Right now, I am feeling upset too for Red who is sleeping on my feet. She must be wondering where her buddy has gone and why her humans are upset.

It will be very strange for Red , I remember how lost Nelly was when Sam died , just try to keep everything as normal as possible for Red , she will slowly adapt given time and your love . It is a sad time Alison , my thoughts are with you all , love and hugs xxxx
