Thanks for all the well-wishes for Carbon. I'm waiting for the vet to call me back, hopefully we can get in this afternoon.

He's feeling much better this morning mood-wise but still taking ages to wee and going out too frequently.

I've gone out with him and watched the (long!) process and luckily no visible blood in his urine and a trickle does come out so he's not completely blocked. However I do think we need a medical intervention as this is not normal and as @snowbunny says, he has a history of kidney issues. I'll also do a big shop between now and his dinner time to get him back on fish-based home cooked.

If it's the low purine raw food - which think it is - I'm going to cry as I've got a freezer full of the stuff. Oh well. Better to have wasted the money on food but have a healthy dog!

I’m sorry to read this. Poor Carbon. Is he drinking much? Hard poos could be an indication of dehydration or too much bone content in the raw food. Do they indicate how much bone? You could supplement with other ingredients—can he eat more meat? Or more veg? Best of luck with the vet visit. I hope it’s nothing sinister and just a blip he’ll get over quickly.

He's drinking more than I think he should with raw, but this is my first foray into commercially-prepared 'fresh' raw. I've always mixed everything myself when I fed raw in the past.

I think for at least a week I'll switch him back over to cooked with low protein, then if he's doing better slowly mix some of the raw into veggies and fruit.

But first to see what's up with a vet check.

Well, that was interesting. GBP38 for a three minute phone call. I guess if it works, it's worth it. Funny how if I go in and the vet actually looks at the dog, I feel the visit is worth more. Maybe it's time to change my thinking!

The vet thinks he has a UTI but when I come in to pick up antibiotics tomorrow, I'm to bring in a fresh urine sample. They test it for crystals while I wait. If it's crystals from the Alopurinol, the treatment will be different.

The vet said not to change his food for now. It's raining a torrent at the moment and plus the vet is on the way to the big Morrison's in Newquay where I get all Carbon's food fixings, so I'll just wait until tomorrow for a shop.

On the bright side, Carbon seems comfortable and relaxed today, which yesterday he most definitely was not. Not sure what that says for the diagnosis, but at least he's not in pain.

I don't think so as when he's not having a wee he's moving just fine. Plus the wee just kind of dribbles out of him, not his usual 'manly' stream. :sneaky:

Yes, he shouldn't be drinking so much with raw because of the high moisture content.

He's finished the evening much happier than yesterday. Still 10 minute wee, but afterwards he does his little dance which tells me that he feels he's emptied his bladder.

Personally, I think it's crystals but I will be DELIGHTED if that comes back negative and it can all be sorted by a few days of antibiotics. We'll see tomorrow!

Wouldn't you know it, Carbon seems much improved today and that was BEFORE going to the vet. I had to get a urine sample and he wee-ed like a champion. We then headed towards the vet and had a very positive experience. It was a little odd sitting in the car and talking to the vet tech by phone, but they had the system down pat. Payment taken by phone and then medication pick up through a window in the side of the hospital building.

They didn't have the staff today to test his urine for crystals while I waited, so I'm meant to get a call from the vet sometime today to let me know if Carbon needs to start the antibiotics. If he doesn't need them, I can return them next week for a refund.

There was one very sad thing, however: an older couple having to say goodbye to their beautiful grey kitty in the back of their car. They were sitting on the rear bumper of the car with the cat laying peacefully in the floor of the hatchback. After a while the woman picked up the cat and was just hugging her with such love and sadness. I tried not to look but couldn't help notice what was happening out my peripheral vision.

Another client arrived and walked past the couple. Understandably, the she didn't understand that the cat had already passed. "Oh, she's just lovely." she said to the couple. " Is she poorly?"

"No," the woman holding the cat replied, "Not any more."

I just sat there and cried and cuddled Carbon.

Mixed emotions @Emily_Babbelhund , so good to hear that Carbon seems a lot better but so sad about the cat :'( Goo luck re the results . Was this the Vets near to us at Lostwithiel , Kernow Vets ? What a shame with the lockdown that we couldnt have met , hopefully soon xx
