ML note (as Carbón is already under the duvet):

Well, that’s a wrap on Italy! Six weeks done and dusted. Tomorrow we head back to Regensburg and in exactly one week from tonight - UK Border Control willing - I’ll be back in Cornwall.

This has been an amazing time and I’m very grateful I was able to do it - and to do it with my best fur buddy. But it also feels like the end of the era of backpacking and public transport. As a friend who has known me for over 30 years said when I told him what I was planning : “Emily, you’re too old for that s@&t!”.

Truer words! 😂

So while I’m sad to say goodbye to Italy, I’m HAPPY to say hello to some of the creature comforts that have been temporarily absent.

And of course heading back to Cornwall is always the best thing. I feel like doing a happy dance and shouting, “The 7 month exile is OVER - here we come!!”

They found an old WW2 unexploded bomb near the tracks on the Brenner pass so all trains cancelled and we’re waiting in Verona. Hopefully the next train will run in 2 hours, will likely be standing room only. With luck , we’ll get into Regensburg at 23:00.

Taylor Swift’s song We’re Never Ever Ever Getting Back Together is on loop in my head and I’m singing it to the stinkin’ train!

I’m going to kiss the TARDIS tomorrow. 🤪

Oh nooooooo! I hope you get a seat. I really do.

On another note: You know a Taylor Swift song??! I listened to her for the first time a few days ago, wanted to understand the hype. I still don’t understand.

We’re rolling towards the Alps and I have a seat (fingers crossed I can keep it). In a mere 7.5 hours we MAY land in Regensburg. 😂

Last train trip ever or until I fall on my head and get amnesia about the train experiences over the past 8 weeks. 😝

By the way, Venice is a 7 hour drive door to door. Today will take 15 hours by train. It’s cheaper to drive not taking into account the car park cost. The next time I will cheerfully pay for the expensive parking. 😉

I did ! 😁

I drive hours and hours between countries and in addition to copious podcasts, I like to have a listen to what music each country has on the radio . Taylor Swift is in every country I pass through - I’m shocked you’ve managed to avoid her! 😂

I like some of her songs a lot, but I’m not a Swifty. I think I’m officially WAY too old .

On the other hand, Ed Sheeran’s absolute domination of the local Cornwall station (along with, inexplicably, old Britney Spears songs ) means I’ve been totally converted to being an Ed fan. To me, Ed = Cornwall. I always say a sad goodbye to him when I cross the Channel, ‘cause France and Germany are apparently too cool to play Ed. 😉

. I mean Cornwall will never be as cool as Italy,
What?! Cornwall is TOTALLY as cool as Italy! 😁 Especially for Germans - a lot of German TV movies are filmed in Cornwall, so they go nuts over it.

I’m definitely so relieved to be going back. And I hope this next year I’ll get loads of visitors too (yes, that’s a hint 😂).

Carbón and I are finally on the train to Regensburg. Tonight of course straight to the hotel and bed, but tomorrow I load the TARDIS for Cornwall and we set out on New Year’s Eve.
