Ha, ha! I take one long nap and you've all gotten me married off to Paul and living in the pink Barbie house! :cwl:

The Barbie house was still on the market when I left. Considering that another smaller house that looked to be in about the same poor shape (but not pink and not located on a busy corner) sold in about three seconds, I'm sure Barbie house will eventually sell too.. maybe to someone with a lot of extra beige paint on their hands? 😁

Seriously though Emily , if you did find a way to buy a tiny house is Cornwall , it would soon pay for itself in holiday lets when you werent there , it seems that everyone wants to come to Pasty Land for holidayblobs xx
Oh yes, that I do know.

But not sure if this is the time to buy - apparently prices around Padstow have gone up over 25% just since last year, some reports even say 50%, though I don't see how that's possible! Not to say that prices will go down, but the frenzy may calm in a couple years and the inventory to choose from may be better. Or not...could get worse. But on a practical level, I need to see about gathering the funds (if you get my drift) anyway. I can work on that a bit when I'm in California this fall. And I need to make inquiries about the tax ramifications. I already pay taxes to three entities (California, US and Germany), so I need to understand what adding the UK would mean. For example, would the US and Germans (and the UK) tax my rental income from a UK property? Potential big OUCH.

Also I'm curious to see how Brexit affects my ability to go back and forth from the UK to Germany. Even if I accept that I could only live in a UK house for 6 months a year, if border control makes it difficult to even get in for the 6 months I'm legally allowed, that means that maybe not so wise to buy a house. However, I do think all that (the Brexit stuff and border control animosity towards EU citizens/residents) will calm down with time.

Anyway, you can see I've given this a LOT of thought already! 😁

Would you consider selling your house back home in the US @Emily_Babbelhund or are you keeping hold of that as your home base (even if you don't use it)?
No, I wouldn't sell my house in California. It's my current main source of income, my future retirement fund, and I'll need it as an anchor if I have any hope of receiving 'dispensation' (for lack of a better word) to apply for German citizenship without having to give up my US passport.

However that doesn't mean that buying an additional property is out of the question. Just will take a bit of finagling and patience. :wasntme:

Weeeeeee! I got to surf on the Danube today! ML finally kept her promise to do some German surfing, even though she warned me that there are no waves. At first I thought it would be boring and tried to stay on the river bank and rip up my tennis ball instead. Si, si, that is muy divertido, very fun. Then ML tossed my ball into the water just a little bit from the shore and I waded in to my delightful knees and got it out. Pfft! Still aburrido, still boring, I thought. Then she threw it a little further and I got to do some real swimming. Vale, ok, that was less boring but still: after a two meter high Cornish wave has smacked you in your gorgeous face, you really have a higher standard of thrills.

Pues, but THEN...ML used the stick thing to throw the ball a few meters into the river. I jumped in with great enthusiasm, but when I bobbed back up, my ball was travelling down the river away from me FAST. Really fast! I swam faster and faster and pretty soon I was being pulled along the river too. The water is very high at the moment and I do not remember it being quite this exciting the last time I swam here. ML started to hop up and down on the river bank, but I was determined to get MY BALL. Finally I caught up with it and saw ML running along the river bank waving her arms. It was a little hard to swim to shore and I got to a place that was not exactly where I went in, but WEEEEEEEEEE that was muy divertido, very fun! Vamos ML, let us do it again!

We did do it again, but ML did not throw the ball quite as far. I still had some very good swimmies - we cannot call it surfing as sadly there are no waves - and I met a couple new doggie friends too. I got to wear my purple coat when I got home and I had a good nap all afternoon. Nothing better than a siesta after a swim.

Tomorrow my amiga Fine ("Feena") is coming to stay with us for the day and she has a heart problem so we will have a gentle day with no swimmies. I am sure I will again conquer the mighty Danube soon - ojala!
