How does Señor Carbon cope with the time zones?
He and I both slept like the dead our first night back and then we both were up at 2am last night/this morning. He kept asking for his dinner and to go out. From 2am all the way until 6am when I finally just gave in. He's completely jet-lagged at this point, poor baby. It usually lasts 3-4 days and when he's back to begging for dinner at 3:30pm, then I know it's over. I take longer - always a week.
He did so well this evening. Completely new place and he marched out with me in the rain and chaos that is Florence for a wee and a poo. Cars everywhere, narrow sidewalks full of people and dogs - he just got on with it. Then I had to leave him alone for 30 minutes while I ran to the supermarket for my own food. Again, he just chilled and took it in his stride. I know he won't destroy anything or get nervous, he just hangs out on the bed. He's a rather amazing little gentleman.
He's gone to bed now. It was a big day.
Florence is pure insanity, but a lot of fun. The energy is manic. Four days will be more than enough, then we'll be on to sedate Venice. But for now, we'll walk fast and Carbon will fit in with all the other metro Italian dogs in their rain coats. I used to say it was illegal in Italy not to have a coat on your dog when it rains. I don't know if it's actually true, but it sure LOOKS true.
