The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Dios mio, amigos, I am tired! So cansado! ML has decided that we were both getting too sad and needed to fight it with a dose of fresh air every morning. Qué bien, that is a good idea, sí?

Pues the way she decided to do it is an hour jog at 6 am! IN THE MORNING. Oh qué pobre estoy, poor leeetle me. Vale, the city is calmer and cooler then, and I get to say hello to new doggie amigos along the way, but this is much different than swimming and uses new muscles and I am tired! Did I mention that?

ML says we will both get used to it if we do it every day (today is day 3) and that it will help us be happier while we are in Regensburg and be able to have more exciting adventures in Italy, like climbing up hills to explore castles.

Being more happy is always good, but I say “Pfft” to castles on hills. Give me nice flat Venice where I can take a bonito boat home when my leeeetle feet start to hurt. Ojalá!

Poor, poor Carbon, you look so tired and utterly worn out, hope ML doesn't look the same. However, soon you will be so full of energy you won't know what to do 😊
We BOTH had to have a leeetle siesta, especially as we are meeting up with Mouthy Maja tonight. We needed the fortification! But now we are rested, I had my dinner, and we are ready for puppy fun on the Danube. Let us hope that Maja continues her streak of not trying eat my face. That would be truly muy bien!

( I keeeeed, I keeeed: Maja really is a buena chica making much progress in learning how to be a proper German Mädchen).

Hola amigos! ML and I had a big adventure this morning, climbing up the only hill near Regensburg muy temprano, very early, in the morning before Bavaria became the hot ball of molten lava that it is in the tarde, the afternoon. Vale, that is a chispe, a joke: it is not THAT hot, it just feels that way when you are covered in a luxurious black coat

ML keeps asking me how I ever survived in Spain if I cease to function at over 22 degrees. Quien sabe, who knows? I also cannot live without my pillow, duvet, or Monkey, and did not have them in Spain either.

These are the mysteries of life, amigos, no?

Pues, it was a very long walk with lots of hills for Germany (for Cornbeefwall it would be an easy day) and took us over two hours. Do not tell ML, but I actually enjoyed some of it, like being in the countryside again after so many weeks in the city.

Here are some photos - not enough of me, but truthfully I was breathing too hard to model, so today I do not mind the scenery shots so much!

@Emily_Babbelhund, it was good to see the countryside, I had no idea there would be any that close, just so interesting to see x
On that side of the Danube, it's basically just farmland and (eventually) small villages. Regensburg's urban sprawl (such as it is for a city of 220k) is on the other side of the river where the university, manufacturing plants, and suburbs are. But even then, with a car you'll be out of the center of town AND out of the suburbs within 10 minutes. It's not that big of a city.

Before I had a car, I used to love going up on that hill with Brogan, because it really feels like you are in the country (because you are). Though there weren't any today, back then many of the fields were sunflowers, which were really beautiful. This was the first time up with Carbón because I've been too out of shape to go that far. It was really special to see Carbón up there in a place that Brogan and I enjoyed so much together. 💕

Ooo that mean old ML has been holding me hostage and not letting my leeeetle paws touch the keyboard. Qué lástima! And me looking so handsome and Bavarian during Regensburg’s folk festival, Dult.

Pues, here I am, sneaking in and showing you my latest look. Qué guapo, no?

Ademas, ML tried to draw Maja. She says she loves Maja but…um…based on this ‘portrait’, maybe not so much? Ja, ja, ja (that is Spanish for ‘ha, ha, ha’!)

Hola amigos! Finally an adventure and photo shoot I can share!

Today is the last day of Dult, Regenburg’s big beer festival that happens every May and August/September. I would tell you it is like Oktoberfest in Munich, but then I would have to give up my Bavarian expert credentials as anyone here will tell you that Oktoberfest is just for loco tourists and that Dult is one hundred times mejor, better, and mucho mas authentic.

Whatever it is, everyone loves it, wears their best Tracht (traditional Bavarian dress) and shows up ready to eat Bratwurst and drink beer until they stumble back home over the old stone bridge. Ojalá!

ML always takes me to Dult early on a Sunday morning. She takes photos and I look for pretzels and bratwurst left over from the night before. It is a win for everyone, no? And claro que sí, I wear one of my special Bavarian bandanas because I have the spirit!

Lots of signs about beer…

IMG_0451.jpeg

…and places to drink beer!
IMG_0466.jpeg

This beer tent specializes in chicken. Here I am waiting for them to open so I can place my order at the take away.
IMG_0471.jpeg
Still waiting…
IMG_0483.jpeg

Maybe we should look for the chicken inside the tent instead?

IMG_0485.jpeg

Here I am thinking about chicken. I am getting a leeetle hungry!
IMG_0493.jpeg

And then a milagro, a MIRACLE happened! All my deepest dreams come true! The nice lady inside this sausage stall asked ML if I wanted a sausage and ML said ‘yes’ and then the lady came back with the biggest Wurst I have ever seen in my vida and SHE FED ME THE WHOLE THING! Oh Dios mio, Dult is now my favorite festival ever!

Here I am refusing to leave the place where all my dreams came true.
IMG_0495.jpeg

And then we found this cute sign and some fun rides, but frankly after that sausage it was a bit anti-climactic.

Finally we peeked into the biggest and prettiest beer tent, where they were getting ready for their first customers of the day. Sí, sí, there are many people who come on a Sunday morning to have beer and pretzels for breakfast. That is the way they roll in Bavaria: very Catholic, but do not miss out on the beer garden either. Priorities, amigos, priorities.

Finally a wander through one of our favorite neighborhoods and a corner which is always so pretty in summer.

Dios mio, leeetle Maja is spending her first night with us and is complaining LOUDLY and bit me on the nose so hard that I nearly cried. There is nothing ungentlemanly about crying, but I think if I cry, then ML will cry too, and then where we will be?

She is currently on a time out in her box while we both recover a bit.

My ML told Maja’s ML that if she does not stop terrorizing me that she will give her to the circus that is in town. I do not think this was greatly appreciated by Maja’s ML, but I must admit it warmed my leeetle Señor’s soul to be valiantly defended by my Mama Lady.

Además, plus Maja would look very guapa in one of those sparkly circus costumes, no?

It was a long night, amigos. Maja cried til 4 am. I abandoned my spot next to ML on the bed after about an hour and went to sleep on the sofa. That worked until 2 am when she suddenly ran into the living room, jumped on the sofa, and bit me on the face!

ML tried everything she could think of, including holding her, putting her in her special box right near ML, under the covers, on top of the covers…but nothing worked. Every 10-15 minutes, all night long, Maja would jump up and start yelling. She finally wore herself out at 4 am and let ML hold her and sleep.

And then at 6am it started all over again. I was afraid to eat and would not even lay down. I just stood in the corner and would not eat unless ML was holding Maja away from me. I am a very brave Señor, but she scares me.

ML took Maja back to her human at 7:30 this morning and now I am feeling better, ojalá! All my stuffie babies are back (they must disappear when Maja is here to keep them safe), and it is just peace and quiet again. ML says that Maja’s ML Nadine will consult a behaviorist this week so that we can find something to work and we will also build a plan to give me a break from her during the two weeks we will have her in October.

Or, qué suerte, there is always the circus!
