The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

Today I made my third (and hopefully last) trip to a clothing shop in Padstow to embrace my current size and get some cute clothes that fit and can take me through the hot and humid German summer. I absolutely hate - pathologically so - clothes shopping. I feel intimidated by the salespeople, it takes ages to find something that fits, the cost always seems exorbitant and usually the quality is disappointing. But today I bit the bullet as I'd told Carbon's favourite salesperson, Louise, that we'd be in. We know Louise by name because she's got the cookies. Dog cookies, that is. :p

Carbon has got the drill down now: we walk around the shop pulling clothes (great loose leash walking practice), then we go into the biggest trying on booth they have (dog + human sized). He gets a treat and I attach his lead to the bench in the booth. Then I try on ALL the clothes, which usually involves stepping on his paws and dropping hangars in his head. Luckily by today he had learned Brogan's old trick of sticking his head out from under the little booth's drape. That way he avoids cranial damage, has something interesting to watch and gets petted by absolutely everyone who walks by.

It took ages and I was a sweaty mess, but I made it out with one shirt, a skirt, a pair of culottes and a new pair of jeans. I'd already bought a summer jacket and three other shirts on previous visits, so now I am DONE with shopping for clothes until next winter at the earliest. Thank goodness!

I apologised to the sales person helping me that I'd taken so long and she said, "Are you kidding? Your dog is bringing in customers because they see him with his head sticking out - you both can stay all day!"

Carbon was completely worn out but in a frustrated way - all told we were actually in the store 2,5 hours so who can blame him. I took him to the deserted beach tonight and we watched the sunset while he had mega-zoomies in the sand. Now he seems worn out but in a good way. Mission accomplished!

You say it so well!! My pain, too. I hardly shop for exactly those reasons. And when I do, I usually give up and force myself to just buy the stuff—making a point to ask what the return policy is. At the moment I have four pairs of jeans in bags at home waiting to be returned. Although the inevitable happens: don’t return in time and end up with clothes I don’t really like! But at least I have clothes!!

Then I try on ALL the clothes
Absolutely! I do one pass of selecting every possible item to fit on. Try them all on and end up with a smaller selection. Then call in my husband for the final selection—I just don’t trust my own judgement of what looks good on me. Not that I always agree with him! Hence, buy to return policy!

Oh, I did my best shopping the time I was allowed to take Snowie into a clothing shop. He did the same—kept an eye on the goings on in the shop from under the curtain.

Lovely photo of you and Carbón.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who hates shopping! I'd much rather go to the dentist. I hear you about returns as well - today I'm thinking if I really need everything I bought yesterday, so the stuff will stay in the bag for a few days until I'm sure.

Shopping with dog is MUCH better than shopping without dog!
