The Labraventures of Carbón, Spanish (ex-) foster dog extraordinaire

I was going through a very bad patch and in the UK for legal proceedings around my train accident when Little Britain first ran. I know it's not considered PC any longer, but I remember sitting in a slightly dubious hotel room somewhere in the UK (Manchester?) and laughing for the first time in months. For that reason I'll always have a soft spot for Daffyd Thomas.

I've not asked him so who knows...maybe Carbon IS the only gay Spanish gentleman dog in the village?

After wonderful visits with @Rosie, Paul and Pongo and then the @Beanwood crew (including Otter's first puppy class! :happyfeet:) yesterday Carbon and I rolled back into sunny and hot Cornwall. We're back in the big house for a week, then Saturday we move over to the cottage for our last five days. I wanted to make it an even two weeks, but both of 'our' houses down here are rented starting 13 June, so that's the day we'll be making our way slowly eastward towards Germany where we're due to land the 24th.

As nice as it was to get a Wales taster mini-trip (and even better to get to go visiting!), driving back to Padstow yesterday felt like coming home. Considering I've been traveling for nearly nine years now, I'm rather amazed to have found yet another 'home' this late in the game. But there's no doubt: northwest Cornwall has now been added to Regensburg and Cadiz as my unofficial home-away-from-home towns. To be honest, I'd gratefully take Regensburg off that list at the moment, but I also know that's more to do with my German taxes and immigration than the town itself. I'll get my Bavarian mojo back!

For now I'm going to enjoy our last days in Cornwall for this time around, including some very special last visits.

Carbon is still worn out from the @Beanwood visit, so today was low key. We went on our favourite walk and he didn't even try to eat the sheep poo (much). I don't know if this was from sheer exhaustion (what did you do to him while we were at puppy class, @Mr Beanwood ?), the temporary change to kibble last week or a miraculous surge of maturity. Or maybe Carbon has been replaced by an alien pod person?

Whatever the cause, very proud of my Besito Boy. His besotted ML loves him.

Do you think Fryer Tuck will open early? Just for us ?
 Was Fryer Tuck open?! It was closed when I was there, and when I looked online, it said that it had closed down (and not just for the winter).
Flippin' Fryer Tuck! Yes, they are open now. I talked to Lesley (my landlady) and she said the owners are kind of on the outs with the locals as they only only open for the tourist trade starting at Easter week and through the summer months. If it's any consolation, they don't have a great reputation for food either. I guess it's that ENORMOUS road sign that draws the customers in...as it did with us!

However I have now researched the fish and chips situation down here (as you do when you are a food addict) and there is the cafe at the garden centre which supposedly has lovely meals (including f&c and full English breakfasts) and is dog-friendly year-round. So there you go - winter fish and chips. Also Chip Ahoy in Padstow is apparently the best taste-wise. Not sure if I'd brave sitting outside with those murderous thieving seagulls though!

I've had an attack of some sort of icky stomach thing today and Carbon has been SO good. I've only been able to sit on the sofa in a state of "will I or won't I violently toss my cookies?" for the last three hours (finally getting better now). At the beginning, Carbon was trying to get me to go out for our usual afternoon adventure or sit on my lap in the loo (don't ask). Once he realised I was really down for the count, he went into Nurse Carbon mode and has quietly snoozed by my side. It's amazing how dogs can tell when you are playing possum and when you're really ill.

Hopefully I'll be 100% tomorrow and can reward Nurse Carbon for a job well done with a romp on the beach.
